Richard Mathers signed with the GC?

BRITS LURED: Brian Carney won't be the only British import to play for Gold Coast in 2007, with Leeds fullback Richie Mathers understood to have agreed to terms with the new club. Mathers, 22, played for England against New Zealand two weeks ago and would have been called up to replace Paul Wellens in the Great Britain team this weekend if he had not undergone wrist surgery. Great Britain prop Stuart Fielden and Wigan centre Sean O'Loughlin continue to be linked to the Titans.

He is a joke. He cannot tackle and has awful positional sense and decision making. He struts round like he is Andrew Johns, but the truth is that most Leeds fans don't rate him.

If he can play NRL, anyone in Super League can.

I wonder if the Gold Coast will still chase Clint Greenshields.

Would be good for depth if Greenshields could play on the wing and be used as the second string full back if needed.

You're right, most Leeds fans don't rate him.

The feckwitted ones with amoeba brains and no idea about the game that is.

If this report is true its a great signing, for the Titans and GB RL in particular. I pine for the day when someone with better pace than a legless tortoise is playing in the full back position for GB.

And I fully expect Danny McGuire to follow his best mate to the NRL if Mathers does indeed sign for Gold Coast. Its obviously been left to the former Leeds academy players to leave their comfort zones and actually go out and improve themselves and the British game.

Perhaps an idea for the Gold Coast with Prince stating his intention to stay with Wests:

7. Campbell
6. McGuire

or

7. McGuire
6. Campbell

Mathers is hopeless. Played great in the Grand Final but has been hopeless all year. Still young though, so he may come good.

And McGuire can't come out with Mathers, he re-signed for 3 or 4 years with Leeds earlier in the year.

I'm not saying McGuire is a chance to come out, I have no idea, but it should be pointed out that contracts don't mean much any more.

Carney had to get out of his contract with Wigan to sign with Newcastle and the Gold Coast.

Thompson
Elford
Firman
Lyon
half the Warriors side

If McGuire really wanted to come to Australia I don't think a contract would stand in the way.

Mathers is great going forward and is good positionally. He just needs to work on his tackling technique. Without doubt he's the best fullback prospect in GB for years.

does anyone know if this signin is confirmed as he would be a great signing at such a young age. The titans are buyin some great players i wonder if they are interested in Keiron Cunningham??? Cunningham would be a great signin for any club do u think the Titans will go after him

no as it would be a waste of money . signing Keiron Cunningham would be the best way to use most of your cap up. he is good but is on way to much money and they dont need they have a friend to play hooker who is very good and would cost bout 1 /10 of what Cunningham would . so i dont think they would waste their money on him.
if i was at the titans i would be going after players like michaels ,eastwood , bond , parfitt from the broncos reggies and players from norths shortland, smith , boyd, wilkie etc all still very young most under 20 atm and look the goods and would come cheap and will be looking for a chance as wont get much of one at the broncos or storm.
that what i would do anyway go for the youth.
