He is a joke. He cannot tackle and has awful positional sense and decision making. He struts round like he is Andrew Johns, but the truth is that most Leeds fans don't rate him.

If he can play NRL, anyone in Super League can.

People are idiots. People like you.

Mathers is a tremendous signing. He should have started ahead of Wellens during this year's tri-series, and will only improve.

KC... he's overrated. He can be good, but he's thrown more passes to ground during the tri-series than he has to men. Mickey Higham would be a far better signing.

Mathers easily the best full back in the UK ?

He is a good player in super league but im unsure whether or not he will cut it in the NRL . He struggles to tackle one and one but his positional play is good. His speed is one of his strong points although he can't hack anything further then 30/40 metres.

He blows hot and cold in the air, sometimes he'll catch em then other times he won't. But more times then none, he will produce the goods. If I was a Gold Titans fan though I would be very very disappointed with this signing if it tunred out to be true. He is a good player but they are better full backs out there.

The best young British Full backs we have is Richard Mathers, Paul Sykes and Shaun Briscoe, although Briscoe still has a lot to learn but he definetley knows his way to the try line. Sykes for me is one of the most underrated players in the game, valueable in attack and defence, plus he is a good goal kicker.

Some stats.

2003.
Sykes--Played 16 - 6 trys - 1 goals
Briscoe--Played 18 - 9 trys - 0 goals
Mathers--Played 10 - 1 try - 0 goals

2004.
Sykes--Played 25 - 5 try - 63 goals
Briscoe--Played 28 - 22 trys - 0 goals
Mathers--Played 25 - 5 trys - 0 goals

2005.
Sykes--Played 28 - 12 try - 116 goals
Briscoe--Played 22 - 13 trys - 0 goals
Mathers--Played 27 - 14 trys - 0 goals

If and when this guy is signed by the Titans i'm sure they can see promise in him. Maybe the Titans coaching staff believe they can help develop his game.
I doubt he has been signed yet, they might be talking with him, but who knows we will just have to wait and see!

Laugh at me all you want, Mathers is not a good player at the moment.

He didn't feature for GB, despite it being blindingly obvious that Wellens doesn't have the pace to be the long term option at full back. Why not?

Mathers cannot tackle, a pretty important aspect of playing full back. He does have his good attributes, such as his pace and his confidence, but I doubt he would be good enough to cement a regular place in the NRL.

I think this rumour has plenty of miles in it. He is in Australia at the moment with Danny McGuire, on 'holiday'. You'd be surprised who you can bump into on the beach.

I take it you watch a lot of SL. Even those with limited viewing of young Richie would say he's a long way off the finished article. Don't be mislead by those with a loiners slant. He's good, but needs at least a two years of hard graft in the NRL. Some players develop in SL, ie, Stuart Fielden, others need more of a shove, possibly elsewhere.

Well, to be fair, nothing I've said states he's a brilliant player. Let's face it, if Paul Wellens is the pick of the bunch as far as British fullbacks go - it's not exactly a position in which there's a lot of quality.

Still to be confirmed but the League Weekly says Mathers will definitely be a Titan in 2007.

Mathers would be a great signing... and don't try to pull this "I bet you don't watch much ESL" **** on me.

A great kid on the rise... has some great attributes to make him a great footballer but will need a few years of NRL to adapt... much like Carney who wouldn't be an instant success story... much like your titans team.

With Lee Smith looking to snare the Leeds fullback position, I believe Mathers will be leaving Leeds... it's just a matter of if it's to the rumoured Bulls or to the Titans. At least if he's down here, I can go see him.

Just on Greenshields, I think it's highly unlikely you'll get him. Hornby looks to be settling in halfback and Greenshields at fullback... and for many months now, I've heard insider reports that Head is being released to Melbourne and Simms to Roosters. So I think this one could be one you miss out on

Searle said he was yet to table an offer to Mathers but would do so early next season after the England A star last month visited the Gold Coast with Leeds teammate and close friend Danny McGuire. "All the feedback that we got over there from people like David Waite is that Richie is a player of the future so we'll keep negotiating with him and if we got a decision by May we would then know if we have the fullback position locked away," Searle said.

I guess this is about as good as we can get in regard to the Mathers signing gossips
