did anyone catch nine news last night?

they were talking to ricky stuart and when asked about the raiders injury toll he said something like most of the players out wouldn't make the first 17 for raiders now.

just thought it was interesting coz no one has really put the situation here into context for non raiders fans.

Phil Graham would come in on the wing
Turner would be in the 2nd row
Troy Thompson would be in as well
Linc may of got a bench spot.

But what Ricky is probably pointing at , is how good the replacements have been, we havent really lost momentum with all the changes.

I've been thinking about this plenty recently too. If we hadn't had the injury toll I really doubt we'd have made the 8.

My reasoning:

- Zillman may be a better player than Milne one day, but Milne has it all over him as a fullback ATM. His hard running returns absolutely revitalised the team IMO.

- Buttriss's swift and accurate passing has also been a vital cog. He's also a pretty good runner from dummy half, added another dimension to our team with Withers going down.

- Best probably wouldn't have gotten a chance at left centre with Graham fit. His try against the Dragons was legendary, had a great season out there.

- With Carney leaving Campese became a different player, absolutely awesome.

The only injuries that I think have really cost us have been Herbert and Thompson.

They meantioned the injuries on NRL Teams a few times as well. They even put up a list and went on to say that it was easily a top footy side sitting on the side line. They then put up the question would any of the other teams in the top eight be there with that sort of injury toll and every one of them said not a hope... It's rare but it is awesome when the team gets the recognition they deserve!

Zillman, Thompson, TLL, Graham, Justin and Todd Carney, Herbert, Turner and Lincoln Withers would all be WELL in the mix for FG spots

Not sure about that one edmiester ... I think you will find that Campo's run started a game or two while Carney was still around (Dogs and StG/Ill) ... I remember stating at the time that Carney seemed to be stepping back a bit ... i still reckon the two would have combined to be an awesome duo ... and that is not to say that Herbert cant play a similar role ... the facts are that Carney had more skills in his armoury than Herbert does.

What management now have to do is make sure we are not totally relient on Campo ... if we do and he is injured we're faucked as was shown in Townsville.

Agreed, many of those injuries have been a blessing in disguise. The rise of best, milne, buttriss and probably campese may not have happened without those injuries.

Graham to slot into the wing. I don't trust either Kelly nor Justin Carney under the high ball.
TLL just steam rolls defenses all day.
Carney's combination with Campo in our two biggest games of the season (Dragqueens and Rooters) was immense.
Thompson's been our best and most consistent forward, probably for the past 2-3 years.

The rest were getting in the way of Milne, Buttsy, and Thurling. Notice how we can score on back to back sets? or atleast keep the pressure on? Probably has to do with a certain hooker not stuffing up momentum all the time.

I am a Linc fan but we havent missed him this year. Buttriss and Hinchcliffe have been great.....better than Linc has been.

The shining lights have been Milne, Best and Thurling. TLL was tearing it until THAT tackle
