September 25, 2006 RICKY Stuart's management team will put his case to become the next Sharks head coach to the club's board at a meeting tonight.
Talks between Stuart's manager John Fordham and Sharks president Barry Pierce continued by telephone yesterday after a face-to-face meeting on Saturday between the three men.
"Talks are progressing, I think, at a satisfactory rate," Fordham said last night.
"I will speak to Barry again tomorrow and we will hopefully be in a position at some stage tomorrow to put a final document to the board for them to consider."
Today marks four weeks since Stuart was sacked as coach of Sydney Roosters despite taking the club to a premiership in 2002 and then grand finals in the following two years. He also took New South Wales to a State of Origin series win in 2005 in his maiden year as Blues coach.
Stuart is the current Australia coach and would like the matter wrapped up this week as the first Tri-Nations series game against New Zealand is in Auckland on October 14.
The final Kangaroos team will be named a week from today after next Sunday night's grand final.
The Sharks sacked coach Stuart Raper last Friday after a private consultancy group completed a review of the 2006 season.
After winning eight of nine games and holding third spot mid-year, the Sharks lost their last 10 matches and plunged to 10th and missed the finals.
But the future of assistant coaches at both clubs are also among things to be negotiated between the Sharks and Stuart.
Roosters first-grade assistant to Stuart, Shane Flanagan, was also sacked, while Raper's assistant at the Sharks, Adrian Lam, was reportedly given a verbal agreement that if Raper left he would be next in line as head coach.
Part of Stuart's bid to coach the Sharks includes bringing Flanagan with him.
The club will already have to pay out the last year of Raper's contract, reportedly close to $200,000, with Lam certain to be paid out as well.
His contract is not due to expire until the end of 2007.
The Sharks are the only NRL side without a coach for next year.
The Roosters appointed former Sharks coach Chris Anderson a week ago to bring the number of clubs with a new coach for 2007 to six.
The Sharks will be the seventh

Sounds like Ricky and Fordham understand the Sharks financial situation and the Sharks understand Ricky's financial situation and are just coming to a mutually acceptable situation. For next season anyway.

Yes, Baz both hands planted on the bopard table - Rick behind him reaffirming his demands which "may" be twice that of Raper. Fair enough too.

Is there a left field option going to be announced after the board meeting ?

Ricky is currently staring down a full year, 2007 on full pay from the roosters and has been wanting a year off to relax with family and refresh for a while.

what if they announce Ricky Stuart has been signed for 2008, with adrian Lam coaching for the 2007 season , would fans here be happy with that ?

it would mean the sharks have no more sacking to do as Lams contract runs out end of 2007 anyway. Ricky gets paid by the roosters to do nothing next year other than recruit and prepare for us for 2008.

Is that just speculation beeker?

I dont like the idea, it seems strange to give Lam a year as coach regardless of whether he suceeds or not.

The signing of Stuart is the bait for the big fish to stay on as sponsors.

Not to mention the gallen of weight that will pull.

what does that mean?

I was referring to his backflip on wanting a release after meeting with club officials. It was mentioned Sticky had started talks with the club prior to this event. Suddenly Gallen says "all sweet, im staying".

May have been more money, but i would lean towards the info of who is coach will be next year - especially being the national coach?????

Ok, so lets discuss.
should the forum recommend that we follow Beekers plan of Lam for a year then onto Sticky flan & Dim the following?
or should we jsut cut straight to the desert & skip the Lam?
Post away forummers & discuss at length!!

Take a hit for the team and get Ricky's tenure under way sooner than later.
Sorry Lam but seeya!!! I've been to the ground more times than him.

I can't wait to see what Ricky comes up with.

Yeah sure the rorters had a sh*t year but that is usually the case after being on top for so long.
It took parra years to get over Cronin and Price leaving ...just like Rorters have with Fittler leaving.

We on the other hand have won nothing ..so it's not like the team is going to deflate from too much hype after another big finals campaign.

Watch Gallen, Dougie and Reece Williams thrive under Ricky.

It's not my idea, nor my preference, I never said it was but Titan Boy as usual makes things up.

I was speculating , and stated it. The ricky in 2008 option is just the kind of thing I could envisage our board doing. you obviously think it's a stupid Idea titty ? ( short for titan boy). I think it may have merit but is not the most desirably option. First choice should be to have ricky here as soon as possible, ie next season. Second choice, if we cannot have ricky now, have him for sure in 2008 and have him working for us next year recruiting and planning, but on the roosters pay roll.
