Ricky Stuart a future Wallabies coach? Sound crazy? Stuart, the next Wallabies coach? Not entirely out of the question.
A R&M snout who scurries through the corridors of power at the Australian Rugby Union says Stuart's name has bobbed up in conversations involving those who make the big decisions. Even though Eddie Jones is under no threat of losing his job, the ARU keeps talking about "succession planning", and having someone at the ready if everything goes awry. In the rugby ranks, there is no obvious successor to Jones, who appears certain to continue on in the job until at least the end of next year. From left-field is Stuart, a former Wallaby who also has shown during his successful period with the Roosters rugby league team that he is one of the most astute football coaches in Australia. The ARU need no reminding that Stuart won't be easy to snare, especially as he has a two-year contract with the Roosters, while also being a strong candidate to shortly become either the NSW or Kangaroos league coach
