RIP David Topliss ex Balmain player

A legend who stood out in every team he played for, even the outmatched 1982 Great Britain team (3rd Test).

He was also one of the few players who managed to score against the 82 invincibles during a club game Vs Hull FC.

A member of Englands World Cup winning squad in 1972 he also toured Australia and New Zealand as a Great Britan Lion.

Toppo was a Wakefield lad who represented his hometown team through thick n thin and won the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match at the 1979 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

He was a good sevent of the Balmain Tigers and Penrith during two stints in the ARL.

He will be missed around the circles of Rugby league where he always stayed active.

Died suddenly at the age of 58 during a soccer match, thats young. RIP, hope his family are doing ok.

He was a benefit of Clubs installing pokies in the 60's and 70's.

All NSWRL clubs had so much money, they threw ridiculous amounts of money at these players from England.

Funny how things have changed.

David Topliss what a skill, one of the best chip and chase in the game. from a pretty shaky memmory scored five trys in one match against newtown when at the tigers.The tigers always had success with their pommy imports and he was no exception. At his peak was the n02 two 5/8 in the world, bozo Fulton always seem to have his measure. In a way he was like Benji, could turn a match on its head in a second. Anyway sad to see him go RIP
