Should News Ltd refuse to [depart the game] while their fellow protagonists from the Super League war have any position of power, NSWRL directors hold the balance of power on the 10-man ARL board to force a compromise through the votes of chairman Colin Love and chief executive Geoff Carr.
Let's all hope that this time they agree with the QRL position and force a compromise that calls News Ltd's bluff, instead of capitulating to News demands and short changing the game (again). The pressure is on Colin and Geoff - if ever there is a time to play hardball with News, this is it...

Problem with playing hard ball is News have nothing to lose by staying in control, in fact have alot to gain in terms of the 2013 TV deal.

How many posts in a row do you guys need? Three people are hijacking this thread patting themselves on the back while the others are too bored to bother arguing with people who peddle their own agenda over and over again.

On this page alone there's just one of you three pointing how right the other two are and one person on the other side of the argument still not tired of you enough to stop bothering.

No matter how many times you all say you're right to each other, or how many lies you splat out like you did in the international section, or how many times you double/tripple/quadrupple post it still won't change what other people think about the IC

The concern that I have is that the NSWRL is technically the NSW Sydney RL made up of ex Football Club managers. That is why the NSW-CRL actually exists

Thus they have delema here
- vote on what is best for the game ongoing
- vote on what is best for the Sydney based football clubs

The second item is the concern in the overall process as they will be pressured(or have a conflict of interest eg Politis) by their very own football club links to vote against the QRL position

If News isn't bothered why are they pushing this club proposal? There's obviously something in it for them and the ARL would be mad not to try and get the best result for the game rather than caving in to the first, one-sided, ill-conceived proposal that comes along.

+1.

Its all about jobs for the boys these ARL and QRL boards, and the NSWRL don't know where they are at. Great. And they should have a say in the top level domestic comp? Hopefully NSWRL pushes it through and we can get on with improving the game.

The irony of this whole thing is that the QRL board is now made up of independent people, which is how Ribot got a run, while people are slandering the NSWRL which is elected by many of the NRL clubs pushing for the commission. The other irony is that Ribot has the chance to save us from accepting a dud deal from News Ltd.

now that is ironic!

Can someone explain how the Telstra sale is going to impact News's 1/2 ownership of the NRL please?

Or maybe it's not ironic, because whatever cause Ribot is behind is the one that sane people should be opposing.

Eight of the clubs trying to take control of the game certainly didn't oppose his last big idea back in '95. And that was when he was a club CEO, not an independent board member of a non-profit governing body.

Oh right, just because he's joined the QRL he's turned into a paragon of virtue? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying it's ironic that one of the architects of Super League, which has brought the game so many problems and of which many of these clubs are comlicit, is now in a position to help potect us from a future that will bring more problems. It's also ironic that he is an independent board member of a non-profit body yet people who are supposedly advocating such a thing for the NRL are slandering him and the rest of the QRL for trying to do the best thing by the game. They are also claiming the ARL are holding a grudge and can't get past the war yet the loudest voice on their side is Ribot. I'd say if there's one side that can't get past old grievances it's the organisation that is proposing the abolition of the traditional governing body of the sport, who, even under the terrible 1997 agreement, is assured 50% ownership of the game, not only now but when the agreement expires in 2017.

If you think Ribot is in any way independent then you're deluded. He's a mercenary. He's an attack dog. He is just the sort of person who should not be involved in the new commission.

I don't know how many times I'm going to have to say this, but anyone who talks about ARL or News or the clubs having this or that percentage "ownership" of the game can't be taken seriously. No one owns the game. Votes on a board don't translate to percentage share of profits. You can't sell your "share". Talking in that sort of language distorts the reality of the situation. Please stop it.

ECT I think you raise some good points which need to be debated.

But if the QRL and NSWRL being "slandered" by other posters, surely your assertion that the IC and the 16 Clubs wont do anything for the game of Rugby League beyond NRL level amounts to the same thing?
