May be a blessing in disguise tbh. I thought after a strong world cup last year we could really capitalise with a tournament in Aus and NZ. It's a chance to have some huge crowds and big ratings and really put international footy up there in hearts and minds of Aus, NZ and the Pacific.

I'd be shocked if it isn't here in Australia with PNG and the rest of Pacific to host some games too.

Albo is big on pushing Australia's interests in the Pacific and will underwrite this tournament to do so.

to me it a real opportunity for the nrl to push its pacific agenda without launching a team there, this could lead into a whole bunch of amazing opportunities for the game.
We need these games sold out and if they are played in 2025 across NSW, QLD, WA, SA, NZ , PNG and all Qualifying games in pacific what a win.

The rights deal is not expected - as we were not intended to host and hence would be a gold mine it itself. Can we get a gauge on what a 9/fox deal could be for 60 games? I’d say it would $20-30m plus. I could be way off …

This will now show how committed the ARLC/NRL is to the IRL

If it get abandoned or setup properly under NRL T&Cs

Bring it to OZ and NZ, and spread the games to every state in Australia. Plus take games to the pacific also.

Last World Cup lost money I think

poor ticket pricing and English fans just don’t want to pay much to watch games

I don't think the WC will ever be profitable while they insist on running 4 world cups simultaneously.
The men's is profitable but the others can come down the road when the game can afford it.

Considering the time slot, the games rated very well last year. I reckon we could get Seven interested. Ten/Paramount might even have a look to show they're committed to getting the NRL rights.

Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and PNG should all host a game in their home nation.

And given that it'll likely be a Pacific Island "theme" for the world cup, the final should be at Eden Park.

It'll likely be an island nation in the final so odds are good.

Australia, NZ and PNG games at home.
Officially hosted by “the Pacific”. Hit Albo up for some guaranteed financial support, otherwise it may be NZ as the prime rights holder.

Gee its disappointing, I planned to go there for that tournament, now its going to be another host. At the same time I'm not surprised given its Rugby League.

As for new hosts, I'm not that convinced that Australia will have strong interest. It should be in NZ and other pacific nations.

Could a RLWC 2025 go ahead without the French Government financial support in France?

The IRL don't have the finances to underwrite a tournament without the French Government support. That's the worse part in all this, the French Government was still willing to support the tournament, they just wanted the IRL / RLWC2025 to go as guarantors for any losses the tournament might incur.

As per the IRL release:
However, the France 2025 board of directors felt they had no choice after the French Government demanded a guarantee for the risk of loss for the event, considering that the conditions initially set to secure the economic viability of the event were not met, after additional time and funding provided to the committee by the French Government to that end.

Now if we were sure we could make a profit and actually had an IRL with some money in the bank, this request would have been pretty fair and the tournament would be taking place.
