super league is to blame for the state of international rugby league
“There has also been the issue of the IRL being owed money by the organisers of the last World Cup – who in turn were owed money by finalists Samoa”

and that World Cup had 20 to 30 million pounds on government funding

pommies are just hopeless at managing rugby league events

With a ten team world cup. The cost and logistics involved couldn't be much more than a Pacific Cup. Do we just go to having a World Cup every year. Rotate between Main hosts of England, NSW, Qld & NZ.
NRL can own it and pay an agreed amount to International Rugby League.
Considering where we are as an international game, this isn't a bad idea. Give all 10 nations meaningful tests every year.

Two pools of 5 and put some of the profits towards building the game in the Pacific Islands, Lebanon and France.

Other nations can still play internationals and will be considered to be added to the annual world championship when they can meet certain criteria including domestic league structure, player numbers, pathways and a reasonably competitive national team.

Shit compared to what? We are talking potential venues in Australia and Brisbane is heads and shoulders above any other city to host the final when it comes to supporting the international game.

The crowds in England for the big internationals are awesome and I love it when we get big games there, should be way more of them, but that won't help us at this world cup.
Sht compared to what any World Cup final in australia in another sport would get.

maybe if the media took their hand off it when it comes it origin and showed the kangaroos the same reverance australia would get behind the international game more?

mind you given the arlc treat it with such disdain, nearly in august and still don’t whose playing where in 3 months ffs, you can’t blame the media and fans for not giving a sht I suppose.

I can't disagree. The ARLC have let the prestige of the Kangaroos jersey and brand fall a long way in the last 10 years

Apparently France are tendering for the 2028 WRLWC. Wonder if they’d have the hide to bid for the 2030 RLWC or the game would be stupid enough to hand it to them again?

Hopefully France does bid for the men's in the near future, it would give league a huge help. The Olympics going billions over budget is what lead to the decisions to axe the RLWC. Yes it was an awful decision but on the flip side, if France can improve over the next 10 years it will lead to much better interest and engagement from the locals if France host.

Some interesting bids for the woman's. Kenya or south Africa would be great.

We should have a 16 team WC with only 4 guaranteed places from the semis of the previous cup.
The other 12 teams qualify from a genuine 2 year program of Int games from 2 pools.

Sth Africa

Interestingly SL is considering changing quota rules so if a player has British citizenship they don't count as overseas. That could see a host of Australian and NZ players that have been over there for 5 years or more getting British passports and being eligible for England in RLWC2026.
