Yes he did. He had a awesome game. He provided a great platforom for Skando, Gibbs and co. His dummy half running game and passing game was excellent IMO.

I guess he isnt talked about much because he plays hooker and rating him might upset some people on this forum who favour the "prodigal son" ahead of Mearsey.

How about that surfey hair

He had a blinder. Agree with Gr8_1, never gets the wraps and recognition he ttuely deserves. Brilliant Hooker, always gives 110% apart from Skando, he's be the first one picked if i was coach.

I thought Mears had a great game too....even though I am a fan of the prodigal son.
Great when you consider how long he has been out.I would be very surprisd if he wasnt picked.......
Farah was also very sharp when he came on .

yeah, with farah, senter, mears, galea and fitzhenry [ who played well there against nth qld esp.] we have good set of guys who can play dummy half

and as for darren senter, well ive said since last season he shouldnt be playing, i'd have mears there as not waste galea's other abilities and robbie farah needs some time. i'd have buckets or sattler as captain - really i think his time is up and especially when we have such a strong forward pack i'd really be looking for a new full-time hooker

mears is in a no win situation when it comes to recognition here.
you have the dazza fans and then you also have the farah fans.
i am a fan of all of them, and mears play out of dummy half has improved since royce started working with him last year.

all of our hookers this year have done a good job and have probably been our best performing position this year.

I still think he is at best an interchange player. I am a Farah fan simply because I believe he has the talent to be a rep footballer in that position and is the future of the club.

I agree that we have a wealth of talent at dummy half and it is disappointing that this is the case. A player like Mears is always going to get the rough end of the stick in situations like this

Mears had a very good game but once again showed why he will never be the permanent number 9 for the club. He is simply too selfish from dummy half. Running the ball he is deadly, nobody questions that but he wastes too many tackles when we are close to the opposition line. In my view if Farah (or anybody else) was on in that first 20 mins we would have scored three tries not one. We had an overlap on numerous occasions and Mears either ran himself or went the wrong way.

I am a fan of Mears but for all his ability he has many flaws.

Well put

Mears has a lot of talent and some glaring weaknesses in his game - in a club with less depth at hooker he'd be in the starting side every week.

In OUR team I still hold he's the number 3 hooker - and will be playing for the magpies when dazza is fit.

I think as well mears does run from dummy half just a touch too much...its like he does it without thinking or looking....I think possibly it could be a concentration thing...dunno....but he went well yesterday. Lots of easy metres up the middle thanks to manly, not trying to take anything away from Mears game, but they were pretty crap up the middle.

As for Senters detractors....as madunit has said, no-one has put forward a good case why he shouldnt be there....I think the Souths game showed just how important he is......a very very noticeable difference in our game, particularly defense was evident when he broke his arm

Mears game of 18 tackles (no misses) and 8 runs for 67 metres is a solid effort coming back from injury - but nothing to write home about!

Especially when you consider Farah also made 18 tackles (1 miss) and 8 runs for 74 metres to just shade him!!

The greatest downside to Mears game is a tendency to be selfish with the ball and his propensity for ordinary options!

Farah is a more complete player, and realistically a future Kangaroo No 9. He should be given the role full time and just told to get on with it. The days when either Mears or Senter can expect to play hooker are fast drawing to a close.

At least he has settler on one hooker.I must say Im a over 2 hookers in the side.Especially when we havee a guy like Fitzy who can come in and do the job if need be.

I am surprised that he chose Mears over Farah, but ya couldnt fault Mearsies game last week so good luck to him.He is a good player no doubts/.....

Mate I couldn't agree more. Two hookers is almost as dense as three wingers.

We all know why Tim chose Mears over Farah, but I think it's another case of Sheens shutting the gate long after the horse has bolted. If he had given Farah the start as soon as he was fit enough then he could have had a few games against ordinary opponents to get himself comfortable. Now with games against the big guns Sheens will be risk averse and Farah will be left with Balmain. His class will force Sheens to pick him eventually though (you'd like to think anyhow).

He made the same mistake with Lima. Jeff should have gone to NQ if not playing against the Bunnies. Everyone knew Paterson wasn't the answer, but Sheens refused to take a chance on a young guy. How much more confident would Lima be going into Friday with three or four more games under his belt?

You ever see Crinulla play????They play with two hookers.....the replacement one(Sullivan)is a gun.Im farked if i know why they dont start with the bloke.I know I would hate waiting 30 mins to come on to be a supposed"impact"player.

As far as Im concerned hookers should be out there for 80 mins so you can rotate the props and 2nd rowers for maximum impact.

If ya watch Langs rotation of the Penrith forwards you wil see what I mean. All his big 4 get rotated and all get good amounts of time, averaging about 50 minutes each.

Looking at our team I think we must be going that way....
Cheers.
