i dont see how putting mortimer in would hurt his career?
I mean even if he goes sh*t we groom him for next year yeah? Atleast he would have experience......I dont see why it would ruin him
hindy111 it could destroy his confidence, but that is pretty much it. Other part is if he is a sucess it gets to his head. If he fails to these things, he would never have made it anyway IMO
Firstly, I am a huge fan of Mortimer and have been from the first time I saw him play SG Ball and before I found out his name.
Secondly, if we are to groom him for 2010 then let him play some more of the season in NYC, promote him to Wenty around Round 12-15 and then in the last five or six rounds bring him into the first grade squad.
Sounds like a long winded way around it but there are good reasons.
1. The first grade team is playing like a busted arse. The NYC side, while not playing much better, is a better unit at this stage for him to be learning in due to the stability within the team. Sending him to Wenty lets him adjust to the bigger bodies he is sure to come up against in first grade, yet it allows him to do it without the added pressure of rescuing the season for first grade.
2. The kid has been primarily a five eighth through his junior career. He is learning the halfback role and doing an admirable job at the moment but it is easier to cement the role in the lower grades than it is in first grade.
3. Once, or maybe if, the first grade side can find some form it will make the transition into first grade much easier.
