If there was actually a 40k crowd on the cards it'd be insane to play it at Kogarah.

Part of the reason why this is a backwards step. NRL should retain control of finals, they're the ones who lose hundreds of thousands in gate $$ if the club makes a poor choice.
We should be looking to improve finals crowds not concede defeat.

What’s the incentive to do that though if they aren’t getting the gate?

The opportunity for a great fan experience is a big sell for things like membership and merch in particular - definitely a consideration.

And while the NRL get the gate, they do distribute profits and clubs get finals prizemoney etc - so it's in their best interest to maximise those opportunities where possible.

Parra Stadium is now the ideal for every game not involving two big sydney teams. A Souths v Dragons game for example should still be at ANZ but Parra is the ideal for any finals fixture that couldn't crack 50k at ANZ...which is most of them.

The 3rd world stadiums on the edge of the city should not be used at all.
