Roma vs Dynamo Kiev match abandoned- what happens now?

This match was abandoned at halftime after the referee was struck by a projectile thrown from the crowd. Kiev were leading 1-0 at the time and Roma defender Mexes had just been sent off.

What is likely to happen now?

Will the match be replayed? Dynamo Kiev will probably have reason to feel slightly aggrieved if they don't end up with the three points from this game considering the position they were in.

Could Roma face some heavy punishments?

Whatever happens Group B is looking likely to be unpredictable with Bayer Leverkusen flogging Real Madrid 3-0 in the other group match.

What a disgraceful incident. Not sure what will happen with the outcome of te match, I would say it will be replayed though. It's fairly likely all of Roma's remaining matches at home will be played in front of an empty stadium now and that they will get heavily fined. They'd have to be on their last warning as well now...

Disgraceful.

They should be fined a massive sum of money, and given their finicial difficulty, this may cripple them and play all their matches in front of an empty stadium for the rest of their European campiagin (sp).

Or the other option is to set all of Roma's matches to 3-0 to the opposition and kick Roma out and ban them from Europe from next season.

Kicking them out of Europe is a bit over the top, imo, as it's a bit harsh to hold clubs accountable for rogue supporters. I do acknowledge though that Roma has had a recent history of fan misbehaviour, and in situations like these where the actual perpetrators cannot be identified the only option is to punish the club. I think awarding the three points to Kiev is a reasonable enough course of action, although no doubt there'll be a fine as well and maybe the empty stadium situation.

Absolutely disgusting.

They should find this pr1ck and belt the sh1t out of him in front of the 50,000 fans who paid money to watch their team play, but had their evening ruined.

It is being reported that we will be banned from the Olimpico for 6 matches, the result of the game will be awarded 3-0 to Kiev and we will receive a large fine - which this cawksucker should be forced to pay.

Sad how once person can ruin an entire game of football, and possibly a clubs entire European campaign.

I'm more concerned for the welfare of the ref. UEFA has to impose a strong sanction on them otherwise it'll set a bad example. You can bet if this was in England it would be all over the backpages tomorrow...

It was a stupid reaction, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it "horrid thuggery".

The player milked it for all it was worth.

"Dynamo had the advantage," said Ukrainian football federation president Hryhoriy Surkis.

"Their rivals were cavalier, cynical, impertinent and ignored the rules of fair play.

"By looking at the big picture we can say the guilt lies squarely at the door of the Roma players."

i agree with what half wrote.

also, personally roma don't deserve to be there imo and should be booted out the champions league and probably europe next season. that sending off was just, and deserved. roma deserve what they get and i hope they are given hell...

I think they're implying that if that clown Mexes hadn't of kicked that bloke and been sent off then that nutsack in the crowd wouldn't of thrown the lighter. Personally I tihnk that argument holds no water, I'd expect better from the BBC.

The match should be awarded to Kiev by default...and Roma banned - how long for?...Not for me to say, but they should not be allowed to partake of the CL this season - and thereby enjoy the benefits therein...OR - they should remian for this cmp - as it's logistically hard for a new team to be brought up tio replace them once the comp has STARTED - and they should have to play every one of their home games behind closed doors....or at a neutral venue outside Italy...Say, Malta or something....and then suffer a 'proper' ban NEXT seasson!

That kind of behaviour is normally associated with their Rome counterparts Nazio - But Roma disgraced themselves here BIG time....On AND off the pitch - and now must suffer the consequences - as other clubs have in the past.....

They will not progress far if they're made to play behind closed doors anyway...So ban them NEXT season....for however long is necessary...but make them SUFFER this season in the meanwhile!!!

If I were in England, the English club (assuming it is a Europen match) would be kicked out along with every English club in the Cup and CL and given a lengthy ban quicker then Deco could go to ground inside the box.

Just like how Liverpool's fans managed to get English clubs banned from Europe in that final against Juventus.

From what I have read Roma fac a 20m Euro loss, which could be crippling.

We will know by September 21st.
