I would. But we don't even need to throw in that part of the deal, you can just take Howell off our hands.

"We thought we had him."

I cant even see the point of making this public. Its not exactly a good advert for Wests Tigers is it.. Now theyre saying two spots left... If they dont sign anyone then do WT play 2 squad members short all season?

The whole things makes you sahke your head. They shouldve acted as soon as Fitzhnery and Galea confirmed they were moving on.

Why be clever like every other club and start doing these things round April.

Of course earlier in the year was too busy negotiating a 3 yr deal for his geniused kid to contemplate signing new players. Hence we are left with a chunk of money to throw at reserve graders. Wonder if Peter Lewis, Matt Jobson, Nick Graham and Moodie will fo around another year ?

Showing what a genius he was. Asking union players to switch codes, move countries, to a more expensive city, by offering them the chance at a pay cut. The man is a genius of his time. f**k we have some utter shmucks at our club

You dont quite get do you? As sh*t as their recruitment has been in the past this is actually a good idea.

You understand that these players other than nonu that he will be looking at will be players who play in National Provincial Rugby Championships some of which would only be 25,000 - 40,000 so they will be taking a rise will possibillity for further rises.

Well if everybody like Tuiaki - he was a club rugby player in North Harbour competition in auckland - which is no where near the top grade - players sourced would be from a higher comp than he we was.

Tigers for a while had a kiwi rugby winger Corey Niwa - though who left mid-season to play for Australian rugby 7's team

NZ rugby has an abundance of maori and islander wingers.

My Pick would be Hosea Gear - 6'3 about 23 or 24- he play for Wellington in NPC and super 14, NZ maori all blacks and brother of all black Rico Gear.

For some reason he has had limited rep and limited super 14 chances due to abundance of wingers - he is big, fast and stronger even more so than nonu.

Somebody email Ronald Mcdonald and tell him to hittup Gear.

Though more likely they will be hitting up guys who missed out on super 14 contracts - hence they will be cheaper.

Fitzy was telling supporters at the Canberra game (June 1) he was headed to England, Im sure the club knew well before then.
Here we are almost Nov. five months later, the club is making excuses.
Making the "we missed him" public is a PR reaction, or 'spin' if you will - to the backlash from fans on the official websites web-board, of their inability and lack of being proactive in securing the services of any capable replacememnts for Fitzhenry & Galea.

We get the spin about the pressures of the salary cap being the big hurdle. I just dont understand how they were chasing Monas and Noddy mid season when the cap was full. Its our big excuse now bit wasnt an issue back mid season.

As for signing some fringe rep rugby players from NZ and expecting instant results, your dreaming. One out of five might deliver in three seasons but to plug the holes for 2008 not a good move

Bullcrap in terms of sourcing an outside back from rugby many of them will be able play straight away.
Well that would be better than all the current options such as mcdonnel and the other guys with a generic name who showed absoloutely nothing.

Nonu - would of made Lawrence look like an amateur.

Keep dreaming even a bloke like Mortlock who hits the line and tackles with some grunt would take a year to settle into the weekly gring of the NRL.

Im not talking about mortlock though am I - Im a talking about a fast, evasive and powerful winger/centre from NZ rugby. Half of the guys have a league background aswell as representing NZ and Samoa in Sevens rugby which shows off their attacking ability.

They would be a better winger than Tuiaki, Mcdonell or that other young guys who showed nothing.

Take a year to set in weekly grind of the NRL - though seasons are short in Rugby - most of the players playing will play 14 super 14 games - 14 or so NPC games and then also play club rugby in between that.

again, you can buy all the best outside backs you want but nothing will happen if you don't have a halfback

No. there isn't a Union player on the planet who would improve us inside a couple of years, and that's saying something. We shouldn't be looking there at all.

Union players are playing at 1/3 the pace of an NRL game. 1 year is extremely generous.

And we don't need that drunken make-up wearing freak nonu. I was extremely pissed off that we even chased him.

Union is a game for turds .. watched by turds and played by turds
There isn't one union player i'd have at the tigers. Fat, slow, unfit compared to League players and can't tackle (particularly when the space attackers get in league is a lot more than they do in yawnion).
We may as well look at basketballers

And Kul we have a halfback. His name is Johnny. He was signed by supercoach to replace a Clive Churchill medal winning half, despite him never having played half back in his life. To overcome this fact supercoach signed him to a deal that was only 3 yrs in length at 220k a year.

This is of course beyond any criticism or questioning ...

No union player on the planet who would improve you guys - your kidding yourselves in terms of outside backs - there are dozens who are better than mcdonell, ryan and co. that could turn up next week and play better.

You were angry about chasing nonu - it would of being the biggest signing of the year in the NRL.

He would of been superstar material - both his abilities and physicality will suit league - a game he played as a youth.

He would of ripped lawrence to shreds both on attack and defense.

So rugby players are fat, slow, unfit - so what the opposite of that??? Shannon Mcdonnell - exteremely skinny, fast and fit - well why you always complaining about him you have the ultimate player on your hands

Shannon macdonnell can barely get in the first grade side of a team that couldn't make the 8, even with his old man pulling every strng necessary. If he played union he'd be a wallaby or rep player such as spastics like berrick barnes, duncan mcrae, sam harris etc

Take off the rose-coloured glasses mate.

It's not the players that are the problem, it's the game that's the problem. Union has gone soft and slow over the past few years.

The NRL would kill most of them.

No chance.

Civonoceva is by a long shot for mine. Signing nonu might have gotten the odd kiwi supporter wet with anticipation, but he's an unknown in Australia and for good reason.

Hell, even the Wallabies are unknown in Australia.

No.

Too many seasons playing that abortion of a game.

By playing alongside him?

Does he know the rules of Rugby League?

He's staying where he should be. The soft option is exactly what blokes like him should take.

Mind yoyu some of the outside backs we have been linked with would be hard pressed to get into the west harbour side. But dont despair Ronald Sizzler and Shines are thinking outside the square. Maybe their the odd jockey looking for a gig now that horse flu has hit in. They would be the right size for us and melbourne have had value out of Billy Boy
