wait so let me get this straight...Friend fined 10 grand for committing A CRIME.Seymour fined double that for....being pissed.

WHAAAAA?

Fines were dealt out by the clubs themselves, and put in the relative position of there salary's and prior instances of being involved in these sorts of instances, Seymour can be thankful it's not more.

Children have parents for that. The NRL is not responsible for children's parenting. Australia is fast heading towards a nanny state where blame must be found at all costs.

These incidents happen everyday. Your average joe doesn't get strung up in the media because people foolishly anoint them to be something they aren't

By all means find an admirer in footy. When I was a kid it was Wayne Pearce. Choose your admirerer wisely.
You don't choose who your role models are. For example, kids that had Brett Stewart as one of their role models admired him because of his actions on and off the field. Nobody could have seen the allegations against him coming, especially not kids.

He disappointed them. All part of growing up. That is not the responsibility of the nrl.

When I was a kid I recall being very disappointed by Kim Hughes touring Sth Africa. It is actually very beneficial to be let down in such a way. A great learning experience.

Trying to artificially insulate kids is futile. Holding a gun at someones head to pretend to be a role model is futile at best. Even if it worked it would be artificial.

Let's cut to the chase. You are jealous they earn more money than you and you want to see them punished for doing so! It they earn all that money, well hot damn, they sure can't spend it on babes, booze and a good times. They should sit at home and be miserable and be punished for their success.

You just don't get it do you??

I agree.

Stewart broke a specific NRL regulation related to conduct at official team functions.

I guess the NRL can use the "game in disrepute" card - but then we'll see how consistent we are on that.

Friend broke a NSW law, the NSW Court will punish him - the NRL has no role to play in this besides offering him rehab, support etc. as any employer would.

Wrong. False. I have covered this point twice in this thread. TWICE! Two times! The ban was for drunk, disorderly, unprofessional behaviour. It was not about being at a club function. The code of conduct section used to ban him says specifically "whether or not a player is at a club, nrl function ect ect". Come on people, actually know whats going on before shooting your mouth off. If friend had not been banned it would have been high range hypocrisy, because the situation is exactly the same as with stewart.

I cant help but think that Friend is a victim of timing though. With the Brett Stewart thing still in the media, the NRL would be under enormous pressure under its shadow.

Are you serious? Brett Stewart was the victim of timing here. He got banned for drunken behaviour that tarnished the nrls image when nobody had before him (that I know of), but thats fair enough. They wanted to change the image of the game and the way this type of thing is handled for the future so there is nothing wrong with that, as long as its consistent. Stewart is the one who got slapped with a ban out of nowhere, friend knew exactly what would happen if he did the same because he had the luxury of seeing stewart crucified for it a week before. Friend has no excuses. The nrl would have been a massive joke if they had not intervened.

They are all merely victims of their own stupidity - Stewart, Seymour, Friend, Shillington, the lot of 'em!

Hayne, Finch, Walker, Carney, Crocker, Eastwood, Latu, Williams the list goes on Bart.
Every team has one I think. Maybe. We certainly do obviously.

Yep, I forgot about half those guys.

We can blame the media for it all, or we can applaud the league this year for trying to help them take a hard look at themselves.
I wish Hayne had have got a wake up call/suspension/fine a lot earlier on, same with Timmy Smith etc etc.

Yeah for sure.
I like the measure the Roosters took (the shock treatment)...could it work with the different things that players have been charged doing?

Not saying Greg Bird should be glassed in the face btw...

Yeah, could send some of the repeat offenders who don't know their limits with alcohol to work shifts in a hostel for men who have fallen on hard times through their alcohol intake. I know of one in Parra, not far from the leagues club.

Have you ever known a little lad who has a poster of a journo on the wall or walks around with a journos name on the back of their shirt?

No, but if the Sharks had allowed him to keep playing there might have been some in 8 or so years time, who wouldn't have realised that it was the wrong thing to do.

Repeat the above steps for Stewart, Shillington, Seymour, Friend and anyone else this year....

Shillington should be banned for fraud.. Fraudulently impersonating a First Grade footballer.
