Roosters eyeing Folau and Inu

THE Sydney Roosters are set to follow their signing of Willie Mason by pursuing Melbourne powerhouse Israel Folau and his childhood friend Krisnan Inu.
The Weekend Australian understands the Roosters have made Folau one of their priority signings as they look to strengthen their backline for 2009. And Inu is also in their sights, given he comes off contract with Parramatta next spring.
The Roosters are expected to face significant competition for both players. Folau is already in demand across the competition.
Gold Coast and the Bulldogs have jumped out of the blocks by expressing an interest in speaking to Australia's Test winger.
The Australian Rugby Union is also expected to make a play for the teenager, who made his Test debut against New Zealand last month. But the Roosters are well and truly in the mix for the 18-year-old.
The Bondi Junction club's case is a strong one, given it already has Folau's younger brother Eni on its books.
Older brother Tevita has also been signed for 2008. And the Roosters' recruitment manager, Peter O'Sullivan, formerly with Melbourne, did little yesterday to dampen speculation the club was keen to recruit Folau and Inu.
"Everyone will go after Folau and Inu," O'Sullivan said.
"I'm sure every club with half a brain is going to chase them."
The Storm has already opened informal talks with Folau's manager, Isaac Moses, and it is believed the premier has made an initial offer.
However, Moses has made it clear his client is in no rush to decide his future.
Melbourne's cause became much more difficult when it had nine players in last month's trans-Tasman Test in New Zealand.
As a result, the Storm was forced to pay bonuses to Test debutants Folau, Cooper Cronk, Dallas Johnson and Ryan Hoffman.
"I would think Melbourne will be ripped apart over the next few years," Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes said.
"It's the nature of the game. Any number of clubs that have high-profile players that start as lesser known players and become internationals, their asking price goes up and you can't keep everybody."
The Eels are also keen to retain Inu, particularly with continued speculation over the future of their other star outside back, Jarryd Hayne. Hayne, a close friend of Inu and Folau, is being wooed by South Sydney.
The big issue for the Roosters could be the salary cap. Mason took a pay cut to join the club for next season but will be on significant wages again in 2009.
Prop Mark O'Meley is also on a hefty pay packet along with five-eighth Braith Anasta.

Can't see the Roosters affording both of em to be honest. Hopefully they just take Inu!

I hate the rorters as much as anybody , but the way the media link every player coming off contract to them is a bit boring. they can buy who they want , it wont help them.

Ohhh..... that old chestnut, eh?

well, I'd rather them pick up Falau than INU, after all Falau is used to being a journey men at the ripe age of 19.

A serious investigation must be launched if the Roosters get both. There is NO way they can remain under the salary cap if they add that pair to their squad.

I am willing to bet right now...they wont get either...u know why?...because if they got either...the NRL would come crawling so far up their arse, Canavan and Politis will think they have worms.

Did any of you muppets entertain the possibility injured Minichiello may not be around in 2009?

With Sam Perrett doing a fine job at fullback and with Joel Monaghan leaving we are more in need of a centre.

Anasta is off contract at the end of 08 , isnt he?

I would think there are some serious concerns over minichielo's future aswell.

if they both went they would at the very least have room for one of Inu or Falou.

Sam Perrett and other young guys will also need to be upgraded dice...you muppet.

If they get upgraded that'd take up about 200k of that Minichello money.

Someone like Falou or Inu would command about $400k each...I guess they'll go to Roosters for $50k each but.

Minichiello & Roberts will be gone by the end of 2008 IMO. Thats 400K + 250K freed up.

That should free up enough to sign ONE of Folau & Inu, along with upgrading Perrett.

Sh*t, what's the point in teams nurturing talent anymore! These days it is bloody hard to hold onto a talented 20yo...

Mason $500,000 next year
Inu - commanding about $400,000
Folau - About $400,000
O'Meley - $350,000
Anasta - $350,000

That's $2 mill right there.

Hate to see what the other 20 players are on to only be $2 mill between all of rest of them.

I think you'll find them at the cross most nights, whoring themselves to pay the bills.

The Chooks can buy as many outside backs & props they like. It wont make any difference unless they can uncover some halves quick smart. Anasta's a lock & Mitchell Pearce is hot garbage.

Just spent a 100 of that brown paper bag money
it feel good to be young money, cash money
