stick with doyle over wing. wings past it. and nutley will provide some honest go forward. Age is a lot less of a factor these days. Look at the Raiders and Jason Smith. The Broncos and Darren Smith over the last couple of years when they needed him. Ok, they may not be long term prospects, but the work ethic they bring and their mere presence can help developing players.

I honestly think Craig Wing is and has always been a five-eighth, he has limited strike-power at hooker, put him in Five Eighth, and he will get back to career best form, which tbh was probably at souths, and the early years at the roosters until he got shifted to replace bonetti

I'm a fan for playing players where they play best. You guys were flooded with injury this year, and I think a better year is bound to happen in 07. For that reason, I don't think making wholesale positional changes is required.

Craig Wing was the Australian Hooker. Leave him there I reckon.

Anasta historically played his besdt football at 5/8 at the Bulldogs. Leave him there I reckon.

You need one utility player on the bench @ Hooker. It's what MOST teams do, so Doyle has to be on the bench. You then need 2 props, and a backrower in my opinion.

Don't worry about Soward. It takes 50 1st grade games they say for a player to start showing his potential. Give him a solid season, with less injuries around him, and he will bloom..

I think people forget the impact Minichello, Anasta & Monaghan can have on a game and backline. Back, fit, and stonger next year, Roosters will make the finals again.

Ryan, Flannery IS the utility now. He isn't big or strong enough to be considered a running forward off the bench, that's why i went with Flanno, Myles, Tupou & Beattie/Shillo/Tonga (take your pick). Shillo/Tonga/Beattie & Myles provide rotation with the frontrow & good tough yards, Toops provides offloads & impact, & Flannery can play the Dean Widders role. Whilst Harrison is injured, we must start with Nigel Plum smashing blokes at second row, partnering Fitzgibbon. Anasta's game suits lock, much like Sutton's. I'd also probably back Williams for the wing spot over Mellars, he's faster & can finish better. As i posted in the other thread:

Minichiello
Roberts
Soliola
Monaghan
Williams
Soward
Lewis
Nutley
Wing
Beattie/Shillington/Tonga
Plum
Fitzgibbon
Anasta

Flannery
Myles
Tupou
Beattie/Shillington/Tonga

When Harrison returns:

- if Plum is crap, Harrison to backrow, drop Plum
- if Soward is crap, Harrison to 5-8, drop Soward
- if Flannery is crap, Harrison to bench, drop Flannery
- if Monaghan is crap, Flannery to centre & Harrison to bench, drop Monaghan
- if Anasta is crap, Harrison to lock, drop Anasta

I actually forgot John Williams from Parra mate. Your right though, he a gun. Mellars can be depth for centre AND wing positions.
Plum is a great player, and in my opinion, the next Crocker.
I know you think of Flannery like Widders, but I tend to think of him more like Beaver (Steve Menzies).

That said, all your comments are an excellent evaluation. Put it this way though. If you have players like Mellars / Tonga & Lewis in Premier League - you are doing well.

Harrison probably won't be back in 1st grade until May. Lopini Paea would have played most of last season if not for his 10 week suspension and he offers more in attack than Plum. Williams and Sa won't be far off selection.

I basically agree with that team, Pkum or Lopini are fine options IMO. Beattie is interchangeable into the 17 with Shillo or Tonga if required, however i would go for a specialist winger AKA John Williams over a centre come makeshift winger e.g. Perrett, Mellars, Monaghan, Sa. I would also do a little swap, Flannery to bench, Anasta to lock, Doyle to 5-8. He, Anasta & Wing can share the 5-8 role while on the field. Or you could just drop Doyle for Soward.

Minichiello
Roberts
Soliola
Monaghan
Williams
Soward/Wing/Doyle
Lewis
Nutley
Wing/Ndaira (only if Wing is at 5-8)
Shillington/Beattie
Plum/L Paea
Fitzgibbon
Anasta

Flannery
Myles
Tupou/Beattie
Tonga

1. Anthony Minichello (AUS REP)
2. John Williams (don't know what to expect and i think he, Mellars and Perrett will fight it out for a place)
3. Joel Monoghan (lets just hope he can stay on the field so we can see what he has got)
4. Isolia Soliola (expected more from this player, he has been talked about highly but still hasn't produced what soo many people have expected, saying that i think 07 will be his year and will be a huge success, NZ REP)
5. Amos Roberts (consistent and always near the top of the tryscorers list, COUNTRY REP)
6. Jamie Soward (give him the start of the season to show what he has got then make a decision on the rest of the season in this position)
7. Josh Lewis (superstar in the making, lets just hope he keeps on improving under Anderson)
8. Danny Nutley (great buy, experience being his main asset, former QLD REP)
9. Craig Wing (former AUS REP)
10. David Shillington (hopefully make progress like Sam Thaiday has with the Broncos and i think he will, possible QLD REP)
11. Chris Flannery (needs to take more responsibility and i think he is playing out of place in the 2nd row, but how many rep players this team has to play lock it looks like this is where he will start, former QLD REP)
12. Craig Fitzgibbon (hopefully his form improves but i dont think he will ever be a rep player again, former AUS REP)
13. Braith Anasta (i would start him at five-eight but Anderson has already said he is likely to start at lock, the only real reason i have put him there. If Soward isn't a success like everyone still says he is and will be in 07 then i would move Anasta cause there is quality in the lock position through other players, NSW REP)

14. Anthony Tupou (AUS REP)
15. Nate Myles (QLD REP)
16. Ashley Harrison (this is the one spot in the team that if not performed well could be overtaken by Beattie, Tonga or Plum and i think Plum might be the answer, former QLD REP)
17. George Ndaira (huge talent, could quickly come starting hooker but has many others to compete for the position)

The roosters have a great pack of fowards and awsome depth as well in the fowards. Just about the best foward pack in the comp in my opinion. The major problem in this side is the halves and the centres. Soward and Lewis are both young and without much NRL experience, Freddy needs to teach the both of them as though he is in the side. The halves also have no real depth. The centres are a bigger problem especially losing Cross. I see Monaghan as a fabulous winger and a makeshift centre as there are no other possible options. Soliola definately has the talent but he hasnt really shown too much. Im expecting huge things from him.

The roosters will have a great 07 if they can keep the same team on the park consistently with players selected in the right positions. Don't think they can win the comp and maybe not even the top 4 but they should make the eight. The key is Soliola and the halves, if they perform they will be strong all over the park

Not too bad. I think that if the players in the key positions (1,6,7,9) are given a chance to gel then they can cause some problems for other teams.

With Minichello taking some of the focus off him in attack and an injury free off season, I think Anasta can recapture his '05 form. And Craig Wing just needs some stability and confidence shown in him to reproduce his best.

You guys might cause a bit of noise if Tupou and Myles play to the reputations (unwaranted in my opinion) they have developed, but I'm thinking borderline top 8 for '07.
