Roosters 30 man squad.

The Sydney Roosters have confirmed their first grade training squad for the new season with 30 players making Brad Fittler’s initial selection.

Each club in the competition must submit a top squad of 25 players, which are signed under the salary cap, to the NRL.

Outside a perfect world the need may arise for a club to use players other than its 25, and in that case players from the Newtown Jets or Roosters Toyota Cup squads can be called upon.

Fittler has included a lot of young players in the squad and admits that the decision to include so many young faces was pretty easy for him.

“I don’t think you can be scared of youth, it is a really good thing,” he said.

“We lost a couple of players like Shillo and Toups who have been here for awhile.

“Our youth coming through are keen and they’re hungry. It’s one thing definitely not to shy away from,” Fittler said.

With future NRL prospects Anthony Cherrington and Jake Friend emerging from the inaugural season of the Toyota Cup Fittler said the Roosters system has the potential to produce more stars.

“Whether or not the age group is ideal I don’t know, everyone has their own argument for those different reasons,” Fittler said.

“The quality of players in the comp and at the club was good, and it was good entertaining footy to watch.

“The players get a bit of a vision into professionalism, sometimes maybe too much, but I think they are doing a really good job and the whole concept of it worked,” he said.

Fittler and the coaching staff have selected a training squad of 30 players to see the
Roosters through the 2009 season.

The squad of 30 is:

Rohan Ahern, Braith Anasta, James Aubusson, Mitchell Aubusson, Boyd Cordner, Anthony Cherrington, Craig Fitzgibbon, Jake Friend, Ben Jones, Martin Kennedy, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Mose Maseo, Willie Mason, Matthew Hall, Anthony Minichiello, Nate Myles, Gary Nateoalofa, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Mark O'Meley, Lopini Paea, Mitchell Pearce, Sam Perrett, Setaimata Sa, Shane Shackelton, Sia Soliola, Stanley Waqa, Jordan Tansey, Sonny Tuigamala, Ryan Williamson and Javarn White.

noteble emissions - Shaun Foley, Riley Brown, Brent Grose.
notable inclusions - Mose Maseo , Ryan Williamson :D:crazy:

My Team (from that 30)

1. Mini (he will be there for sure)
2. Perrett (his the winger for the World Champs)
3. Williamson (the next ROTY, IF he gets the start)
4. Maubs (the better option as the other centre)
5. SKD (try scoring machine)
6. Anasta (will hold his spot, and maybe his captaincy) (C)
7. Mitch Pearce (is learning the game, and with matty johns showing him the ropes, like did cronk, he will get better)
8. O'Meley (deserves his spot)
9. Jaubs (lets hope he gets his ball playing skills back)
10. Myles (will be back bigger and better)
11. Mason (when back from injury will be a starter, like it or not) (Cherrington to come on while mason is injured)
12. Sa (does more damage in the second row)
13. Fitzy (his last year will be a big one for him, could share tha captaincy with anasta) (C)

14. Pini (will be better for the offseason)
15. FPN (earned his place in the 17 last year, expect it to stay that way)
16. Cherrington (unless starting for mason will be in the 17)(Shack or someone will take the bench spot when he is starting)
17. This spot will most likley go to Friend (Soli and Tansey possible inclusions)

18. Soli (unlucky not to be in 17, but im not giving away the centre position, Williamson will be ROTY if the roosters go well)
19. Tansey (not much is known, might play a few games)
20. Ben Jones ( if pearce is out this guy might just be his reserve)
21. Mose Moseo (big guy, lets hope he plays a game)
22. Shack (unlucky not to be in the 17 as well, might even start)
23. Rohan Ahern (dunno much about him)
24. Boyd Cordner (dunno much about him)
25. Martin Kennedy (big wraps, not sure if he will break into FG though)
26. Matthew Hall (Big Wraps, not sure if he will break into FG though)
27. Gary Nateoalofa (Big Wraps, not sure if he will break into FG though)
28. Stanley Waqa (Big Wraps, not sure if he will break into FG though)
29. Sonny Tuigamala (dunno much about him)
30. Jarvan White (Wraps, but will not break into FG, barr Mass Injuries)

my take.

Poor Brown, actually done ok for your mob last season then gets the injury and the cut. Hard stuff.

Great to see Minichiello go around, after your finals elimination they interviewed him and he had a look as if it was his last game. Favourite player hope he stays injury free.

Good side Monk. Sounds exactly right.

No Riley Brown eh? He'd be disappointed, had a decent year. Foley looks to be gone then. And Grose, meh. Care factor zero

Monk - Top 17 look great...

17-30 Very worried about the strength of this group..

A lot are still quite young so i will reserve my judgement until next year...

There has been some talk about Williamson at Melon's forum. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action.

Imjust going to swap Maubs and RW around. best if the kids starts wheere he is comfortable. Maubs can play either centre.

Im over the f**kin moon that Grose is gone. It made me cringe every time he came within 20 meters on both sides of the ball. I'm hoping we are lucky with injuries this season, as if we have a few majors we could be in sh*t.

just for you darl.

As for Soli, i'd have Maubs before him any day. And if Williamson is all he's cracked up to be, why not. Soli doesn't offer much other than the occasional big hit imo.

I agree. Unless he is playing for the Kiwis or having his 1 in 6 good games he really does very little.
