A couple of comments:

A couple of my close extended family have played lower grades for Souths. Didnt ‘bag’ Lachlan Ilias. Noted he is an ok tackler but very average for a team’s most influential positioned player. I hope he is successful but also hope signed on low dollars.

Saw Cup highlights and that Jonah Glover is a very quick half and can play. Lovely high bomb for Cody try.

The movement where Lawson was ‘easily run down’ was a bit deceptive. The Bulldogs fastest player No 2 on wing was already a metre downfield and closeby. He came across and dived to get Lawson who was sprinting well. Coming across and not behind always easier and the No 2 got a piece of Sloan on his 2nd try coming across.

Cody is just so exciting and a class player full stop.
Ilias was on $500k at Souths (way too much) but the media say Souths picked up some of his contract for 2025. The contract is only until end 2026.

Difficult for a half to play with flair when your forwards can't create any momentum. Also getting harassed by Kikau constantly while trying to kick. Burton could kick at his leisure with zero kick pressure.
Exactly right. Can’t believe some are death riding him already after just one game back from a serious injury. Thought he went ok considering the dogs monstered our pack and saved a certain try near the line. Thought in general the whole team looked flat at times.

Just watched it and was so disappointed that I almost turned it off after Sitili's 2nd try.
Our middles copped a pasting and Ryan's season ending already left me feeling flat. The Bulldogs got out of yardage way too easily for my liking and their rucks felt much quicker than ours. The spine was meh bar Liddle and although the scoreline flattered us in the end hopefully today wasn't a preview of what our season is going to be.
Just on Ryan C getting injured, I’ve always been baffled by the rule that when a player is ruled out with a serious injury, you can’t bring another player in to make up the 17. This puts the team under so much pressure and for the life of me I don’t understand why the NRL don’t look into this.

The Dragons have a right to be blowing up about two contentious passes that led to Dogs’ tries in the 28-20 defeat.
There is no argument the Dogs were the more dominant team.
But those two tries were ultimately still the difference in the scoreline.
The one from Kurt Mann to Sitili Tupouniua was dead set forward from where I was sitting, while there was also a huge question mark hanging over the pass from Connor Tracey that Blake Wilson scored off.

Pretend for a moment that the game is a 13 player game and you use interchanges to replace tired/injured players.

Lol@ilias the nsw cup #7 will soon be playing for the wests devils or the thirroul butchers ..stay tuned stmerge fans..
It's a shame we could not get Atkinson for 2025. If we had a decent recruitment manager and talented staff in the recruitment department, we would have secured a top-grade halfback to replace Hunt. If we had such a player lined up, we could have let Hunt go much earlier.

We don't have the forward pack to set a platform for our halves.
We didn't have an edge forward or center in Burton's face on the last tackle.
Our defence structure up the middle still needs a lot of work.
Suli needs to work on how to set up his winger.

Again a packed home game at kogarah v bulldogs and the team was 28 .6 down a massive 1st game we needed to win.
Our defence will not match Penrith Brisbane Melbourne this season and we again can't lift at home games a shocker of a start to the season.

I didn't think the game was too bad.

Dogs have bought a very good squad and we just struggled to compete in the first thirty minutes.

Feagai had a tough outing under Burton's bombs but that didn't bother me - what did was him coming out of the line and tackling air on multiple tries.

Also on two occasions, CT was put into space only to stop because he knew he didn't have the pace to beat the cover. I don't think we can afford to have a back three of him, Feagai and Gutherson - there needs to be some pace in there somewhere.

But on the positive, Liddle was great and probably could have come on five to ten minutes earlier.

I also noted a point - I think when 18 down - with Gutherson yelling "we're still in this". It was wonderful to see. This was a game we would have lost by fifty in past years so despite it being a loss, that it was as close as it was is already a giant step forward.
