A few ins this week in my opinion.

I think this is the team that runs out Thursday night.

1. Dufty
2. Ramsey
3. Bird
4. Williame
5. Ravalawa
6. Norman
7. Hunt
8. Poasa
9. Macca
10. Vaughan
11. Kerr
12. Burns
13. Ford

14. Sullivan
15. Lawrie
16. Polar Bear
17. JDB

Not a bad game to bring JDB into the team. A Thursday night, crowds not too much, not too many Broncos supporters will make the trip south. They will be without Coates and Haas.
A couple of rumours say they will play young Cobbo, probably at fullback, which would push Isaako to the wing. Have to be watch on Gamble, niggly player.

The St George Illawarra Dragons will face the Brisbane Broncos at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah on Thursday, June 3. This is your Round 13 game guide.

Hunt snub Dragons gain
Given the question marks over the health of Queensland quartet Cameron Munster, Harry Grant, Kalyn Ponga and AJ Brimson, one would think that Ben Hunt was absolutely bound for Camp Maroons ahead of Origin I next Wednesday.

Alas! Like he does every other week, Hunt rolled into Wollongong's WIN Stadium on Monday unperturbed by Queensland coach Paul Green's rebuke.

Instead he will gear up to face his former Brisbane team alongside fellow Broncos alumni Andrew McCullough, Gerard Beale, Corey Norman, Jack Bird, assistant coach Peter Gentle and head coach Anthony Griffin.

Hunt is yet to lose to the Broncos in four meetings since joining the Red V – a handy omen ahead of Thursday night's clash.

Here come the cavalry
News keeps getting better for the Dragons on the squad availability front.

The imminent return of Matt Dufty from a shoulder AC joint injury could not be any timely given the Dragons' form of late. Six losses in the past seven games has the Red V teetering precariously at eighth spot.

Mikaele Ravalawa and Josh Kerr will line-up against Brisbane following the completion of their respective suspensions.

Question marks remain on whether Jack de Belin returns to first grade against Brisbane. De Belin's 44 minutes in last weekend's Knock Out Effect NSW Cup game against Western Suburbs was his first taste of rugby league since September, 2018.

Minimal impact
It wasn't too long ago that both the Dragons and Broncos would feel the pinch of mid-year representative football.

2021 has been kind on this front for both combatants ahead of State of Origin I.

Dragons back-rower Tariq Sims will make his starting debut for New South Wales next weekend, while Broncos duo Xavier Coates and Payne Haas have maintained their respective spots for the Maroons and Blues.

MATCH PREVIEW

Dragons forward Jack de Belin is set to play his first NRL match since the 2018 finals in Thursday's clash with Brisbane.

The former NSW representative, who made his comeback to rugby league in the NSW Cup last weekend after he had been out of the game as he was facing serious criminal charges, is set to play for St George Illawarra off the bench.

De Belin took the field midway through the first half of the clash with Wests Magpies at Lidcombe Oval and showed in his 45-minute stint that he will quickly adjust to changes in the game since his last appearance on September 15, 2018.

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin said on Saturday he was pleased with what he saw from the 30-year-old but suggested it may be too soon to select him for the clash with the Broncos at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

However, the club confirmed to NRL.com on Monday night that de Belin was set to be picked to play on the bench to bolster the forward depth with Tariq Sims called into the NSW squad.

Both teams are coming off lacklustre performances - the Broncos were outclassed to the tune of 28 points by the Storm, and while the Dragons outscored the Wests Tigers in the second half they still finished a distant second in losing 34-18.

The Dragons have won only one of their past seven games, with the Broncos searching for win number four of the season. Kevin Walters' men have just one victory from their past nine.

So the game of desperation stakes is an ever-present companion for both these teams. The Broncos have the upper hand in career contests, leading 23-18, but recent form has dropped away, the Dragons winning all four since 2018.

The rundown
Team news
Dragons: Josh Kerr (suspension) makes a timely return and Jack de Belin is also set to play off the bench with Tariq Sims leaving a hole in the back row while on NSW duty. Fijian winger Mikaele Ravalawa returns from his second ban of the season.

Rookie flanker Max Feagai (head knock) is also due back but with Ravalawa available may find it hard to force his way back into the line-up.

Goal-kicking centre Zac Lomax (thumb) is at least another week away from making his return.

Broncos: Halfback Tyson Gamble, prop Matt Lodge and second-rower Jordan Riki back from suspension in a welcome boost for coach Kevin Walters who has lost Payne Haas and Xavier Coates to Origin.

Kotoni Staggs (knee) and Alex Glenn (calf) are also a chance of returning from injury.

Key match-up
Tyson Gamble v Ben Hunt: Gamble returns from suspension to pit his skills as a No.7 against a man who refined his at the Broncos. In fact the two "newbie" Broncos halves in Gamble and Albert Kelly take on two former Brisbane fan favourites in Hunt and five-eighth Corey Norman.

Throw in hooker Andrew McCullough against Jake Turpin and there's several Dragons spine members who would like to show their old club they've still got it.

Stat attack
With Tariq Sims' charge-down in last week's Wests Tigers game, he now tops the NRL with three. It's a ploy not seen as much in NRL games any more but Sims has changed momentum in games with his smothers - beware Gamble and Kelly.

The Stone Poneys will likely have 5 players back from injury / suspension including Staggs
They will be hard to beat ad play with a lot of energy
Looks like they are beating on a Different Drum :wink:

This game will truly be the dance of the desperate. Two mediocre to poor sides showing their wares. Neither are going to get anywhere near a premiership. Last week showed how poor our forwards really are, the backs were up against it from the start.

This game, like the last two weeks, depends on whether we can give ourselves the best chance to win.

That is:

- reduce the amount of 6 agains
- hold onto the ball while moving it around a bit
- keep discipline in both defence and penalties

How many times do we allow the opposition to tire us out by having more ball due to our choices and inadequacies? Its more about the fundamentals in these games than x factor.

That needs to be the focus of the team. It isn't really too much to ask that we improve in each of those areas, is it?

Good luck (not too much luck), I just hope if Staggs returns he gets through the game safely.

We have taken on a few of the heavyweights this year and at times gone with them for extended periods, if we bring that sort of game we'll be hard to beat. If we bring the other sort of game, it will be over by half time.

We are defiantly no heavyweight team , so that's out of the equation .....

Not a bad side. Worried about our centre pairing, though.
Won’t be too long until Sullivan is in the team, I reckon next week he’ll be there after another run getting fit.
