From the team lists, I find it disturbing that Maranta has been named on the extended bench. He is also NOT named in the CC squad (which can change dramatically I know), however, to me this signals that Lafai isn't a definite starter.

Let's see when they do the 24hr warning who is left on the list.

Hmmmmm!!!!

I thought it was Lafai in for Maranta but my league live app has it the other way round. Really hope it's wrong and Lafai is playing.

Won't happen 77.
We will win a few now and just when you get your hopes up slightly and think we are a chance here they'll lose to a bottom 4 team and finish 10th.
Worse still Crush, finish 8th & there’ll be high fives around the boardroom table.

Throwback Thursday: Round 15 v Cowboys

Ahead of our Round 15 clash against the North Queensland Cowboys on Friday night, take a look back at these three classic matches between the two sides.

St George Illawarra Dragons 28 defeated North Queensland Cowboys 22
Saturday, April 15, 2017
WIN Stadium.

In a game of two halves, a ruthless Dragons showing in the opening 40 minutes saw the Red V run in five tries to the Cowboys' one to lead 28-4 at the break.

A double to Tim Lafai along with tries to Gareth Widdop, Kurt Mann and Nene McDonald helped blow out the score-line.

The Cowboys stormed home in the second half to score three-unanswered tries and go close to causing a boil over, in a game they were without future immortal Johnathan Thurston.

Moving within a converted try of the Dragons with 18 minutes still left to play, a try-saving effort from Macdonald at the death all but sealed the contest and gave the Dragons their sixth victory of the season.

Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah

A Jason Nightingale hat-trick gave the Dragons the edge before Gareth Widdop's boot saved the day in this tense clash.

With both sides scoring five tries each, it was the goal-kicking of Widdop which won the Dragons the two competition points. Widdop slotted three goals from five attempts before adding an extra point with five minutes left to play.

Without their first choice kicker Jonathon Thurston, Ethan Lowe took charge and only managed two from five to leave the Dragons with a three-point lead.

The Cowboys broke the deadlock after just five minutes, though three tries from the Dragons quickly followed. Tariq Sims scored first in the second half (although he was a Cowboy at the time) which was closely followed by a Cowboys score-leveller from Curtis Rona.

Who else but Nightingale would step up at game's end – two more tries from the New Zealand international helping close the game out.

Sunday, June 12, 2005
Jubilee Oval, Kogarah

A 28-point rampage in the second half blew the Cowboys off the park in a near perfect closing 40.

A rough first half fought out in front of 15,260 fans at Jubilee Oval saw two players leave the field injured for the rest of the match including Dragons halfback Mathew Head.

The half-time scoreboard read 6-4 in way of the Dragons who had a seemingly tough task ahead without their halfback on the field.

The Red V would rally and storm home with a vengeance running in five tries and keeping the Cowboys scoreless. Wes Naiqama crossed over for a double while Colin Best, Clint Greenshields, Shane Marteene and Michael Ennis all found their way across the line.

COWBOYS

Cowboy Scott ruled out of Dragons clash

North Queensland prop Matt Scott has been ruled out of Friday night's game against the Dragons after failing to recover from a shoulder injury in time.

Scott, who was injured in the Cowboys' round 11 win over Canberra, did not travel with the team on Thursday.

"He wanted to probably give it a good test out this week and has pulled up a bit sorer," North Queensland coach Paul Green said of Scott's shoulder.

Green knows both teams will be desperate for a win to help get their premiership campaign back on track and believes the Cowboys are not far off the mark.

The Cowboys are coming off back-to-back defeats and take on a Dragons side that is also desperate to return to form after losing six of their last seven.

"They're at home on Friday night and they want to get some form on the board for themselves, but we're coming off two losses also that you could say they were pretty tough losses, given some of the decisions during those games so for us that's motivation," Green said.

"We've just got to be a little bit better."

Dragons v Cowboys - Round 15

Cowboys vice-captain Jordan McLean welcomed the week off during representative round, sidelined with a hamstring complaint.

"You get halfway through the year and mentally you feel it so it's good to get away and have a little bit of time off," McLean said.

McLean will get to play alongside a familiar face when Scott Drinkwater debuts for the Cowboys on Friday night, with the star prop excited by what the young fullback will bring to the club.

"I know him from Melbourne. He hadn't played first grade then, but he was always someone to watch at training coming through the lower grades, it's good to have him up here," McLean said.

"He's a pretty cruisey kind of lad old, Drinky, so he fits in straight away."

Jordan Kahu will play centre for the foreseeable future to make way for Drinkwater at fullback, Kahu though isn't too fazed by the positional change.

"It is what it is, I guess. I've played centre numerous times, it's not something that I'm too unfamiliar with," Kahu said.

"That's what I came up here for, for the opportunity to play NRL, and I wasn't going to get that at Brisbane, and I was told that. Moving to Townsville was a part of that and as long as I'm playing here, then I guess I'll be happy."

Kahu was in Drinkwater's shoes earlier this year when he too made the move to Townsville, and said having familiar faces always helped when starting out with a new club.

"He knew a few of the boys which obviously helps, and I found that out at the start of the year, knowing a few faces made it a lot easier to transition, so he'll fit in.

"He's a good young fella and cheeky."

Kahu came back earlier than expected from a shoulder injury he picked up against the Titans in round 12 and is still playing through the pain.

"I'm dealing with the most pain [during the week] but once I get to the game, I'm getting a needle to numb it."

Sorry, but Maranta getting the centre position is a joke!

Ok, so masters is a development player and can’t play till 30th June. Lafai and Lomax are out injured, but we have pereira sitting in reserves!

Surely him in centres is 100x better, and Mr Ravalawa who played last weekend for Fuji there even better option with JP to the wing!

Lats and Maranta in
God help us

It’s beyond a joke that McExit will not pick a young player or a better option

He always goes the “ experienced “ option.

This will be Maranta second first grade game in what 1000 days

Both players will not be with us in 2020

I am so over McExit

Not with that backline. Perhaps Host to centre and a Kerr or Timm to the bench, or even Ravalawa to centre and Jordan Periera to the wing.. Mary, Mary, Mary, you really are underwhelming.... ........
Lafai back next week.
Lomax will be back soon.
Widdop will move back to 6 and Norman to 1.
Even with the worlds shittest backline we will be too good for Cows tonight.
Dragons will win a few from here, you'll see.

Maranta to have brown shorts as Taumalolo runs at him.
Hunt to kick to Drinkwater who will cut us to ribbons.
Latimore to be a complete liability in attack and defence and easy yards made and tries to be scored by the Cows through the middle.
We will be outcoached and outplayed.

So Cowboys to win?
Lets touch base after the game, Dragons win this one mate, I have no doubt.
