Round 16 – Penrith Panthers v Newcastle Knights, at Penrith Stadium, Saturday 25 June

What lies ahead is often unknown. This Saturday night is no different. What lies in store? Anything is possible, given the dynamics of this match in the lead up…

Last week:

Panthers [v Storm @ Olympic Park]: Finally snapped a 5 game losing streak, in quite convincing circumstances down in Melbourne. Played with confidence, as a team, and it was great to see.

Knights [v Sea Eagles @ Brookvale Oval]: Once again, finished on the wrong side of the scoreline, but the signs were encouraging. They never gave up, and kept Manly honest for most of the match.

This week:

With Penrith, it appears to be all about "the honour" being passed on to them. Given the unfortunate situation that Newcastle is in at the moment, no team wants to be bestowed the honour of being the team that snapped their 13 game losing streak. Along with it would come a form of humiliation.

But Newcastle has the team this weekend that could win. Their "X-Factor" is back in Andrew Johns. Any team that has the great man in there should NEVER be written off.

In fact, the Panthers need to be in the right mental zone in this match – any margin of error could prove to be fatal. The Knights, with every loss, is closer to a win.

Penrith are coming into this match after a great win down south, and will be keen to keep the ball rolling as they keep their finals hopes alive.

If anything, it promises to be quite an interesting spectacle out at Penrith.

Prediction:

Penrith have the strikepower and ability to put another huge score against the Knights. But that will not happen. The Knights will be very competitive, and may even hold the lead throughout the game. But at Penrith, with a huge home crowd behind them, the Panthers should have a bit too much, and should get away with it. But only just.

Penrith by 4.

The guys would be ashamed of us fans. It seems as though we all think that we suck just because we've performed below par this season. We still haven't been thrashed all year. Our 5 losses to a row were all against teams playing well at the time. We've been playing consistently below our standards but still much better than the hopeless Knights.

To those that say we've played poorly without many injuries.

TONY PULETUA IS A HUGE LOSS

For anyone that says Joey's back. What did he do when they lost 37-12 to Souths? eh? He was playing in that game. One good player doesn't make a team.

Penrith of course could lose if they really take them lightly.

Why would you be afraid of a team that is winless

If we lose I'll be very angry and won't go to any more games this season

Very contradicting pantherz9103. A little hint for you ... don't give lectures. Everyone is a fan here.

I hope we absolutely steamroll just so I can say I told you so!

If that's what you want to do, go for it. I would be more than happy to wear the egg on my face if that happens.

I would love to see us slaughter the Knights, and it is possible. But for the purposes of doing a fair review, I couldn't dismiss the Joey factor. Whether it's by 4 or 40, it's still 2 points in the bank for us...

Hehe, and loving it   ;-)

Just the one dayers mate, just the one dayers... wait until the real stuff (The Ashes) begin.

We'll put the Poms in their rightful place...

Just a question though KP... where are the Black Caps in the world rankings? I'll let you do the research...

Doh!

Read that Rooney has pulled out... and JL will pick a replacement from within the 18 man squad named.

I trust the man... but geez, with the bench named, can we plug the gap effectively?

LOL PP. I just wrote the same in another. My guess is that Rogers will be moved into Wing and McLean to sit on the bench. Rogers won't let us down.
