Warriors 32 def. Brisbane Broncos 16 (Deine Mariner 2, Xavier Willison tries; Kotoni Staggs 2/3 goals)

7-8

Slowly but surely catching up with the round that was.

It was always going to be difficult without the Origin contingent, but the mission only got harder with the loss of Jack Gosiewski (broken arm) and Fletcher Baker (MCL). Baker wasn't exactly playing well when he eventually succumbed to the injury, but it appeared he suffered it early and tried to battle through.

It's the same story as usual, out-enthused, out-muscled and thoroughly out-played. The Broncos may just have the worst exit set in the competition so they struggled for field position without the referees whistle. Their defence was easily trampled all over by the Warriors - they just lose that initial contact and find themselves getting marched easily. They also can't defend kicks which makes life difficult even off of short kick-offs. If they didn't receive a good whistle part-way through the first half the game could have gotten really ugly at 16-0 Warriors.

Thought they had some decent moments in attack. Mariner continues to stake his claim as one of the better finishers in the competition and Willison is proving a weapon close to the line. I liked Mam's little trick shot in the first half too and would love to see more of that ingenuity but wasn't to be.

4 losses in a row, so the season is in free fall at the moment and life doesn't get any easier taking on the reigning premiers.
