Well, we weren't good enough.

For me at least we are losing with positives to take out. unlike a month or two ago.

Mullen can't even kick a grubber. Seriously. It's rebounds off 10 blokes before it goes anywhere near the in goal.

Its only Sams injuries that have made people not realise. If he stays fit between now and September he'll get the respect and recognition he deserves.

Adam Reynolds would look good in the red and blue 7.
Adam Reynolds grew up in Redfern down the street from Redfern Oval. He is a Souths junior. He grew up a Souths fan. He literally is a Rabbitoh for life.

Yes guys... It's Mullen's fault we let in 34 points... Good one wink wink*

Get some comprehension you idiot.

People pointed out how composed a rookie is compared to 150 FG game Mullen.

We are making an observation on what is one of our huge problems, not blaming him for 34 points. f**k there are some idiots on the forum at times.

Roberts with two grubbers for repeat sets and we score on the next set..... Let's keep this in mind boys.

Our defense let us down. We had 3 tries get chalked off but in all of them Gagai was somewhere or there abouts and he is the future. Love his service for Aku.

We needed someone like a Bird today. Someone who is selfish and wants the ball and not afraid to get it in with the big Souths forwards.

The biggest worry is the fact that Manly have just a good forward pack. If we get run over again this week, we're gonna get belted again.

KOD looks alright in his 5 minutes. Got size, which is something we really need. Aggressive too.

Costigan and Edwards can go lol... I've been on Costigan's side for the whole season but he has carrked it... Edwards works hard but ain't giving us enough punch out wide. Tried some ball playing and cost us the game...

Its not Mullens fault but his performance is emblematic of the teams efforts, one good game a month and as one of the teams leaders, more is expected of him.

His inability to play percentage football and build pressure through effective kicking just makes its harder to win games.

MULLEN WILL NEVER BE A GRIND IT TYPE PLAYER!!! Jeez... He is a good player in his own right and if he is terrible with grubbers, then the game play shouldn't be give it to Mullen. We have Roberts and Darius who can kick decent grubbers for repeat sets etc.

Mullen is FAR from our biggest problem, if he is a problem at all.

Oh and I wasnt really impressed with Tets today either. He seemed slow and was lacking energy. He also let a try through with a missed tackle.

We've been saying the same things of Mullen every bloody year.

Used to be to get a first grade gig as a half you had to have toughness, skill and brains. Most halves in the NRL these days are lucky to have one of those traits.

15-20 years ago guys like Cliff Lyons and Terry Lamb couldn't make rep teams due to the enourmous talent in the comp - halves had so much ability back then. They'd be immortals in todays game.

We need to stop showing Mullen loyalty and use our so called golden dynasty cash to bring in some talent in the halves. Greg Bird at 5/8 would be a HUGE improvement FFS - he has more footballing brains in his foot then Mullen has in total.

We get belted because the forwards don't want to get physical and rip in. They sit back and wait, get bashed and then give up.

They have a tendency to just roll over when things get a little tough, it's been like that for 5 or 6 years, it mental softness.

Manly will absolutely kill us next week.

Bla bla blah.

If he can't grubber get him the f**k out of the halves. Play hooker or go play for central charlestown.

Mullen is not a good rugby league player. He is a talented athlete with no feel or brains for what it truely is to be a first grade half. He is a problem. The only problems we don't have are our 1-5 and 8-10. Beau Scott might solve the problem at 11. Guarantee we won't win a comp until the other 8 or 9 problems are solved.

What the hell happened to KOD? What was the go with the blood, head clash?

Even Wayne Bennett can't unlock Mullens 'potential'. Maybe it isn't the pressure that is forcing him not to play to his 'potential' - maybe he's just not that good of a half.

Cuthbertson never ceases to piss me off.

Exactly right RHCP.

Like the casual golfer who has that one good round per year then returns to hitting bunkers, water and woods the rest of the time. Purple patches does not equal pro.

People thought we needed a clean out when Brian Smith arrived, ha!

Seriously id love to know wtf has happened looking at this year as a whole. Last year we come 8th, look like a pretty decent team, this year we signed Tahu, Buderus, Mason, Snowden and that makes you think wow we can go top 6 at least...

What a failure.

With what we have to put on the park what do you expect. 6 and 7 not good enough Danny needs to have break not much happening there. Souths are just a bunch of Thugs in my book Id love to see someone give Taylor what he deserves. Poor Kyle having that hit in his first game, now will be out for at least one week. Thought he looked to have great potential. Until we get a good 6 or 7 we have no hope.

I think that it's a combination of two things, firstly being a succesful player in Newcastle means you really are feted whether you perform or not, being a local is a free pass to a life of easy money, slaps on the back and positive press.

Let me offer two examples to support the first point, firstly Joel Edwards not signing his contract months ago, holding out for money one would assume because he's Joel Edwards of course from the hunter and entitled to it. He is a rubbish footballer that would be on 2nd tier money at most other clubs. Isnt there anyone in his life that will say, "mate you really aren't that good, take the deal and move on".

Second the regular " Mullen: I'm ready to step up" articles which appear with monotonous regularity. You'd think that anyone with any self awareness would stop talking about it until they could justify the comments on the back of real sustained improvement in their game.

Secondly the Newcastle player production line is well and truly broken, it's just that we don't know it or will admit it. The good clubs are blooding quality players regularly each year, we really haven't produced a stand out forward since Simmo and when was the last time we actually had a great centre come through the club, perhaps Midley.

We have some massive problems and it's going to take Bennett, four years or more to fix them, if in fact he can.

Souths will get theirs, they will get dumped early in the semis.

We just dont have the cattle to do much in this competition.

Get rid of Mullen, Costigan, Taia, and Roberts. Thats a start, replace them with with young blokes whp are at least keen to have a dig and throw in Scott, Snowden and Gidley and all of a sudden it wouldnt be so bad. We just cant keep giving the same old sh*t merkins chance after chance. The season is gone so surely its time to bood a few players in preparation for next season. Why reward these players for their inept performances? Young Smith in the 20s couldnt do worse than the 2 DUDS we have now.

MAY THE AXE FALL!!!
