Edwards is one of our best attacking forwards. I agree he's better off the bench but he is almost certainly a better starter than a bloke who's never played first grade. Starting the game also doesn't mean he has to play longer minutes - if there's an edge forward on the bench (e.g. Niukore) it means Edwards can have a rest.

He could... but it's not the way I'd go. I'd throw Niukore straight in, get him in to the game early instead of having him chewing up nervous energy on the bench. I still believe we get the most out of Kenny when he's injected from the bench and it reduces the amount of time on field for him to brain fart and put us on the back foot... Plus, if it turns out Niukore is out of his depth and you need to get him off, then you only burn 1 interchange if he starts instead of 2 if you bring him off the bench...

That's actually pretty clever.

Marata could be long odds, but it could still happen.

If I thought none were possible I would say so. I think the least likely is Takairangi coming in to the second row. Most likely is Vave coming in, with Gower providing some minutes on the edge if Edwards needs a rest.

I agree that the most likely scenario is that Vave comes in, but I think Gower might start ahead of Kenny...

My mail a few days ago was the Marata is the backup for Manu and even if not this week (i.e. if Manu plays) there is a strong chance Manu will need to rest his troublesome knee before the semi's and Marata will get the nod to get some FG experience.

If Manu is out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Marata debut in Melbourne away from the spotlight of Sydney.

When was the last time BA needed to debut a forward who hadn't played NRL at another club? Over the last 3 years he has recruited a considerable number of forwards with experience (at other NRL clubs obviously) so why wouldn't he then play these recruits if needed?

Who from our juniors has been a better option (to make their debut) than:
- Watmough
- Wicks
- Nelson
- Scott
- O'Brien
- Matagi
- Vave
- Brown
- Fritchard

These are the forwards BA has bought over the last 3 years and the only debutante forward in the same time has been Alvaro,
