Round 2 vs Souths

Was it really such a howler? He was peppered with Burton bombs like Glenn Burgess in the '85 GF and belted around the ears in every tackle. He's not my preferred option on the wing either, but how would Sloane/ Finau/Lawson have done in the same circumstances?
I agree.
His failings for criticism from round 1 should be contained to the couple of attacking movements he stopped through his bad handling and positioning. His bad defensive reads had a bit of Suli influence on them, so it’s hard to throw them on him 100%.

I hope Lawrie goes well. One thing he is good at is taking the hit up from kick-off. When he has room to wind-up, he can actually hurt people, but apart from that he is usually ineffective compared to other props.

Anyway, expecting a win this weekend so fire up.
So if we score 4 times (no guarantees in that) plus their mandatory kick off that means cake has about 5 runs x 8 metres per run after he gets stopped, pushed back and turtled

Then there are his 8 x 2-3 metre runs in the opposition 20.

Then there are his 4 or so crash runs for no metres when we’re right on their line.

I think when they work out his total run metres they think that each step he takes is a metre so 100 steps = 100 metres but the trouble is 50% of those steps are on the same spot and another 20% are as he goes backwards over the ground that he thought he just made.

No doubt if he has a anywhere near ok game against a depleted Rabbits outfit people in here will start getting on the pro cake wagon again but let’s wait until after the game against Melbourne if he is selected.

It's round 2. We have seen them play 3 games and won 2. The loss was to a team that is probably going to be top 8. Last year at 28-6 we saw Saints cave in and get belted. This time they hung in there and made the score respectable only losing by 1 try in the end. Wasn't there 2 forward pass tries to the dogs???? If Saints can beat all the non top 8 sides that will be a good season for Saints and the Dogs I feel are a top 8 side. Of all the teams that lost on the weekend I feel Saints were the better than all expect the Sharks. Tigers, Dolphins, Warriors, Eels, Cowboys and Roosters were far worse than Saints.

We have a young Couchman starting his NRL career as prop. He topped the tackle count with 47. Guler starting is also new to him as he did not start too many games as he mostly played from the bench. Having a go at the forwards is harsh on these 2 fellas. Give them time. This will be Lawrie's first game with an offseason that did not include his best mate Lomax who looks like a party boy and had no respect for Flanno or the club and was more interested in his own personal needs much like Hunt and now Molo. I will be interested to see how Blake goes without these players that caused a lot of distraction as he could surprise you all.

Not only would I love a win but more than 8 points. It feels like too long ago Saints were in the positives in for and against. This will be a 4 pt win if they can get up on Saturday with the bye next weekend. That will be 2 weeks on positive, you beauty. If they can win by heaps which I doubt Saints can have some leeway when we then play the Storm and if they go down make it by a small margin.

Feagai is a reasonably well known quantity. Many of us thought he was finally opening up when he ran through most of the broncos to score in the last game of the season, was that 2 or 3 seasons ago, because since then we have seen very little in linebrakes, try saving defence anything really.
Kind of solid backup who seems not so solid..

I’m with Tuddy -new spine, weren’t disgraced - lots of positives. Stuff to work on. Flannos got this!
Although only up to Round 2 this clash with Souths is vital as it is a 4 point game , with the Bye for us in Round 3.
Obtaining 4 points from a possible 6 gives us a handy start to the Season and would have us well placed..
We appear a six point better side playing at the gong , so hopefully the boys can turn it on , esp with two former Bunnies out to prove a point
Dragons 13 plus

After a solid performance in reserve grade last weekend, Tyrell Sloan is set to earn a recall via the wing. Code Sports reports that Sloan will replace Mat Feagai on the right wing

Good call I think, Feagi was a target last week, Sloans speed have to be worth a try or two hopefully.

I dont think it really matters which of the 2 play right wing, we still need to improve our line speed and kick chase... or we are going to be getting defensive errors... whether they only go right like the Dogs did I dunno.. dont think CT got tested once last week.

Definitely an easier game for Sloan to get a chance this week however.... I wish I could push fast forward through the game after that... the storm backline and coates/warbrick coming at us... yuck.

He's playing for his footy career. I think he might go ok off the bench, nothing special but not a total disaster.
