Round 26 V Manly

Something I noticed about DWZ on Sunday was the way he managed his defence when he went to fullback. He was ordering players into position and if they didn't get there, he covered it. I think that's what you need from a fullback, but please DWZ don't lead with the ball please!!!

I'm surprised no one noticed after the strip that DWZ always hit the line with his left side which protected his ball carrying arm. It sucked to have it happen but I'm certain it won't happen again.

Very confident in DWZ ability at fullback. He hits the line at 1000kmh.
He is only every thrown into the role, so I accept he will have a few mistakes in him vs a full time fullback.

I noticed he was defending in the line a few times on the weekend, ended up at marker if I am not mistaken yet he scrambled well and got himself into position.

I like the kid. Despite his dick fingers.

Last time he ended up at fullback for a decent stint he struggled for a few weeks and then started to really show he could be a very good fullback. If we end up making the switch on game day hopefully he warms us quickly. He'd be a much closer fit to the style we get from Dill.

If Moylan cant play then Whare may well play fullback.

I would hope he would swap with DWZ when we are defending.

Yep, like Edwards he hits the line at speed with no fear. Hence the meters made.
Can't stand the breed of fullbacks who pussy foot to the line, do a hop skip and jump as they near the defence.
Go hard you merkins.

I also recall that, before Edwards was recognised as our next long term number 1, there was plenty of discussion on this forum about Moylan moving to number 6 and DWZ being our number 1.

I'm quite certain Moylan won't play. But if he does then it can't be at fullback. He has dodgy hammys. He won't be able to cover the ground.

Of the same opinion. The running game of a fullback would be too much for him especially with repeated hamstring injuries. If he plays it will be at 6 or off the bench. If its off the bench then he isn't ready to return.

2015 and earlier that was my preference. Last year I was split between them... after the 9s this year though I was 100% on the Edwards bandwagon.

For the work he did without the ball mostly.

He does that. I think his leading with the ball is a bad habit that he picked up as a junior.

Looks like Whare might actually play FB this week, a strange one but whatever. I think Waqa will be attacking Manly's really woeful defensive side(Kellys side) so I hope he has a much better game this week, Dallin also, that strip lost us the game. The dragons were not going to score again IMO. Also someone teach the bloke how to play the ball, you can pretty much do f**king anything accept kick it forward which Dallin must do at least once a week. Don't tuch it with your foot if you cant get that right, Andrew fifita hasn't played a ball properly his entire career but they always go backwards and are always let go, its not rocket science. You cant making be hundreds of thousands a year to play footy and still make the same mistake with the play the balls consistently like that, its just unacceptable, if I was a coach anyone who f**ks up a play the ball like that would be getting fined or dropped the next week. These dumb errors are the reason we still aren't secure in the 8. We have a few error prone players but there always seems to be one or two other players who make uncharacteristic unforced errors, like Cleary on the weekend, he wont drop another ball like that out of dummy half for the rest of his career but one time it happens is coming off our line in a very tight game. Or Isaiah Yeo when he got the drops for two or three weeks, it just seems to randomly effect players that are usually as safe as house for a game or two then moves on to another player, probably something to do with age and experience I guess.

Dwz was playing so well this year and then dropped off with bad handling at bad times during a game.

I am unsure what Brown adds. And it might be time to start Cartwright. When all fit.

1 Edwards
2 Dwz
3 Whare
4 Blake
5 Mansour
6Moylan
7 Cleary
8 Merrin
9 Wallace
10 Tamou
11 Yeo
12 Cartwright
13 JFH

14May
15 Peachey
16 CNN
17 RCG

Not much in form of middle forwards but this is best 17. Blake,Dwz,Mansour play like forwards.

No.

But is disrupting a wing position really that big of a deal?

Fullback is too important for someone who's not too familiar with it. At least DWZ has played plenty in the juniors there. Plus Whare hasn't played any first grade for weeks.

That's fair and I agree. He did say Edwards could be back early and we have Moylan back next week and May who can genuinely play fullback. Could be hoping to get through this one game with as little issue as possible.

The centre/wing pairing is huge in defence.
