Round 26 vs Dogs

Yeah I noticed that as well. These silly things are holding them back. I don't think enough respect for the dogs was shown tonight. Most of them were playing for contracts.

Perhaps that's true but I've watched this team every game this year and they've played that way a lot. I just think they are a very, very poorly coached football team. Have thought that for 2-3 years and I was one of the few that supported the initial appointment (not re-signing) of Mary. It's hard to take even though I thought the Doggies would knock us off today. Anyway, onward and upwards, no more negativity from me. I hope the Cutters and U20 can do something in the finals. They're both very good teams.

Yep, brain explosion. He also threw a stupid speculative no-look pass at the other end when a simple ball inside to Widdop would have done. But many of our players lacked composure tonight.
Lafai has a few brain explosions per game. Never attempt a high risk play metres from your try line and early in tackle set. Mental toughness and game savvy we lack.:rage:

Oh McGregor you've done it again!
That team today was not prepared mentally, they were scared and played like it. A coach with any idea of coaching would have prepared them to be on song. They were not.

Now, does 2017 have an eerily familiar sound to it?
Yes, we have both our reserve grade and juniors playing finals footy and our 1st grade missing out again.

Some simple deductions:
2016 - U'20's coached by Matt Head makes finals beaten in semi final.
2016 - Illawarra Cutters coached by Jason Demetriou wins grand final and National championship.
2016 - 1st grade coached by Paul McGregor misses finals football

2017 - U20's coached by Wayne Collins makes the finals
2017 - Illawarra coached by Matt Head makes finals and wins elimination final
2017 - 1st grade coached by Paul McGregor misses finals football

Anyone see a pattern here? Yet we release JD and extend McGregor and here inlies the problem with our club.
The players are not to blame, you could see how emotional they were after full time, today really meant something to them they were let down by poor coaching and management.

And that's basically the story of 2017

I actually agree with your statement. McGregor has seemingly been able to get the best out of his forwards but he's not taking the backs to that next level. McGregor probably needs to stand down as head coach and let someone else take reigns as the head coach. I would love to see what a coach like Toovey or a left field option like the Walker brothers could bring to the club. Oh well, no one beats the storm this year anyway. They're way too good.

Honestly you would think that everything on the line they would win at all costs!
Seriously seriously, seriously
A disgraceful display!
Dufty - your a cat! Never in my life have I seen a FB pass the ball 30 metres before the defence so many times!

Mann - your not a half mate ur a winger at best

McInnes - I love you but Lichaa played u like a rookie - sign Lichaa!!

Under 20's last year to this year so many players moving up a grade or moving on yet still had a successful season and even more impressive this year with a team with an average age or just over 18 years old.

Cutters last year choc full of experience to this year a very young squad with alot more part timers they they ever used in 2016 and a bit of an inconsistant season but managed to make the finals and knock out Mounties in the first week.

First grade is the real problem within the club and Mary is at the heart of the issue thats for certain.

I just can not see Young and Hornby being that weak they never where as players so what is the real issue.

I've already said it twice! Think about it
I obviously know.
f**k sake you merkins. I'm making it obvious as I can without spelling it out.

I know it as fact that Packer will play. Fact. There may be an injury. Just take it as read.
Yet.

Take it from someone who knows.

He had a very quiet game.

Our use of the Bench is atrocious.
If you don't have confidence in the blokes on the Bench don't pick them.
I thought Host was developing nicely off the bench and he hasn't been seen for the last month.
Sele only getting the last 7 minutes when our forwards were blowing.

sadly Mann was way out of his depth at half today.

lack of cohesion between him, widdop and mcinnes was a main factor in our attack inertia.

we've known all season we were going nowhere with McCrone as half ... its incredulous why McGregor waited until the most crucial game of the season to drop him into this vital position.

hopefully Mann doesn't let this result undermine his confidence ... way too high expectations on him that he'd seamlessly slot in with Widdop given his lack of experience in the role.
