Toyota Cup - young guns in action
March 28, 2008 AS the Toyota Cup heads into round three, Fox Sports will continue to bring you two of the key match-ups live and exclusive every weekend.
Mathew Thompson is the man behind the microphone, calling the games on Fox Sports, and will bring you a weekly look ahead to the action, as well as focusing on who's hot in the emerging generation of NRL stars.
ROOSTERS V MELBOURNE
Live on Fox Sports 2 from 2.30 pm EDT, Saturday.
The Roosters were brilliant in their 40-16 win over Brisbane last Friday, and sit third on the ladder. Their halves, Ben Jones and Ben Cronin have a great combination, and will be the main danger for the Storm in attack.
They also have the benefit of bringing a 125 kilogram prop off the bench in Mose Masoe, a Junior Kiwi. The bad news for the other teams is that Mose is still growing!
The Storm are coming off a 20-all draw against the promising Sharks on Sunday - a rare occasion where the Storm were unable to win a game in either grade.
Full-back Gareth Widdop is one to watch in this outfit. Born in Halifax in the UK he played rep footy for Yorkshire before deciding to chase a career in Australia. The raps about this young guy are good and he's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
PENRITH V SOUTHS
Live on Fox Sports 2 from 11.30 a.m. EDT, Sunday.
Panthers coach Steve Georgallis has made changes to the team that were blown off the park in the second half against Canberra last week
Keep an eye out for Penrith's starting prop, Ollie Tia Tia. He's had a big impact off the bench for the Panthers in recent weeks, and gets his chance to start this time around.
Another man attracting attention is flying full-back Lachlan Coote who scored a double in the loss to the Raiders. He'll be hoping his contribution can be part of a winning outfit this week.
Souths were edged out by just two points by the Bulldogs last weekend. They'll be boosted by the selection of Eddie Paea, who turns out in the Toyota Cup, after being left out of the NRL team this time around.
Halfback Chris Sandow agonisingly missed a last minute penalty against the Dogs, hitting the upright. He'll be keen to atone for that error, but will have learnt a lot about himself in the last seven days.
It's going to be a weekend of fast and furious Toyota Cup action, don't miss a minute of both these games Live on Fox Sports 2.
