Doggies best were again Barba and center Sene Tala.

Match report from Roosters site:

The Sydney Roosters NYC side has suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 38-10 at the hands of Canterbury Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

The Roosters were outplayed by their lower ranked opponents in the eight tries to two rout. The young Roosters were hampered by injuries before the match and had several key players missing, none more noticeable than captain and leading points scorer Ben Cronin.

The first 15 minutes of play was dominated by the Bulldogs as they attacked down the Roosters right hand side of defence, the dead ball line saving the them on a couple of occasions.

The Roosters were handed good field position in the 25th minute when five-eighth Ben Jones was taken out but they couldn’t crack the Bulldogs defence.

They got another chance minutes later when interchange forward John Clayton was caught around the neck, once again unable to crack a resilient Bulldogs defence.

The Bulldogs managed to convert one of their many chances in the 34th minute when winger Mason Pure crossed in the corner. The Bulldogs put the ball through the hands and capitalised on the overlap. Ben Barba converting the try for a 6-nil lead.

They extended that lead seconds out from half time when fullback Jimmy Fawcett was on the end of a good short ball, putting him into a gap 10 metres out from the line. Barba kicking his second to send his side to the break with a 12-nil lead.

The Bulldogs wasted no time as they got the second half scoring underway after just four minutes of play through winger Kele Nuis. Barba unsuccessful with the kick, leaving his side with a 16-nil lead.

The Bulldogs added to the depleted Roosters woes five minutes later when hooker Nathan Smith crossed untouched. The try came off the back of a Roosters error, Barba kicking the ball along the ground 50 metres before regaining possession, crossing with their next play.

The game was secured in the 53rd minute when the Bulldogs flashy five-eighth Barba touched down, then converting for a 26-nil lead.

The Bulldogs scored their sixth try with 20 minutes remaining through Jeco Makatoa. The big interchange forward crashing over from five metres out.

Roosters second rower Anthony Cherrington scored a consolation try for the visitors when he fell over the line in the 64th minute.

The Bulldogs cancelled out that score in the 70th minute as Sene Tala showed his talent when he kicked ahead for himself, regathering in between two defenders to crash over in the corner.

Both sides scored in the final minutes, first the Roosters through full back Jarvarn White then the Bulldogs via Ben James.

Bulldogs 38 (Mason Pure, Jimmy Fawcett, Kele Nuisere, Nathan Smith, Ben Barba, Jeco Makatoa, Sene Tala, Ben Jones tries; Barba 3/8 goals)

Roosters 10 (Anthony Cherrington, Javarn White tries; Luke Towers 1/2 goals)

Miraculous Win For Young Broncos

THE WOW Brisbane Broncos Under-20 team have pulled off a miraculous escape in the National Youth Competition game at Olympic Park tonight.
Down 24-0 at halftime, the young Broncos somehow dug themselves out of the hole, with winger Mitch Rivett – who was on debut for the club – scoring a try with 70 seconds remaining to snatch a 28-24 win.

Whatever coach Anthony Griffin said worked after his team turned a dismal early showing into a wonderful victory.

The Broncos at least started the second half on a positive note when winger Jharal Yow Yeh flew high for a bomb and managed to pick up the crumbs for a try.

In the 50th minute Tom Butterfield closed the gap further, Ben Hunt’s conversion bringing it back to 24-10.

Then big Bronco prop Josh McGuire made a game of it by crashing over.
When Hunt raised the flags it was back to 24-16 with 22 minutes remaining.
The young Broncos were within two points when replacement Jared Kahu raced over underneath the posts to set up the thrilling finish.

Earlier, the Storm had opened up the scoring after just two minutes when Mack Fawcett scored, with Liam Foran converting for 6-0.

After just 15 minutes it was 12-0 through Foran, who converted his own try.
Melbourne ensured they had a handy break with two tries in four minutes midway through the half.

First Joseph Tomane ran onto a neat pass to crash over, and then Will Naitoro scored 10 minutes before the break, the Storm keeping their 24-0 lead until halftime.

BRISBANE BRONCOS 28 (J Yow Yeh, T Butterfield, J McGuire, J Kahu, M Rivett tries; B Hunt 4 goals) defeated MELBOURNE STORM 24 (M Fawcett, L Foran, J Tomane, W Naitoro tries; L Foran 4 goals).
Referee: Brett Suttor.

lol @ that roosters articles and their injuries!!

Jimmy Fawcett - Very good last night. Safe at the back. Found a few holes and has some good speed on him.

Kele Nuis - Hot and cold

Jamal Idris - Was solid. Shut down a lot of roosters play

Sene Tala - Oustanding. Very destructive runs from dummy half. probably the reason why we were so dominant.

Mason Pure - Was ok.

Ben Barba - All hype. This kid is never going to crack it at 5/8 or halfback. He hasn't got a football brain. Cant direct. Spent time out at centre in attack. His defence was better than what people say it is though.

Josh reynolds- Was ok.

Malcolm Leaeno - as useless as his older brother

Nathan Smith - Very Solid

John Kite - Very strong runs. Some good hits in defence.

Harlan Alaalatoa - Sensational. Was in everything. Strong runner. Ran often. A tackling achine

Daniel Harrisson - Same as Harlan. both were awesome and have been outstanding this year.

Jake Foster - Strong running. Good in defence.

Bench

Liam Roach - Only noticed him at the end. Was average

Arana Taumata - A former Rooster. I heard that this kid got his contract terminated unfairly at the Roosters. He fought it at court and won. He then asked for a release and came to the dogs. He hates the roosterss with a passion, you could see how psyched he was when ever we scored. Was good to see. He played well too.

Ben James - Useless

Jeco Malatoa - Runs extremely hard. Not bad

all in all...good to see we can win well although we are missing a few players.

Didnt see the game but when someone posted asking who played best in those games I was gonna say I bet Benny Barba starred for Canterbury Lol, and then it was posted

Has anyone seen this Barba kid, I have on Fox and live vs Souths and he is an awesome talent and I will follow his career closely as I reckon he will be a huge superstar, hope he goes to Saints tho :)

that last try by the Broncos wasn't one and if there was a video ref for the under 20's the Broncos would've been seeing red.

Barba is an attacking weapon but hardly involves himself enough and when he does, he goes for the magic "do it all himself" play 90% of the time. He's not the best defender but he tries.

He won't make it to FG this year or even next year unless he bulks up a bit more and learns to read the game and make the right choices. Gun player, though. Great to watch.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 36 (Chris Farrell, Chris Sandow, Trent Trotter, Luke Capewell, Eddie Paea, John Joseph tries; Chris Sandow 6 goals)

Knights performance was pedestrian.

Team has alot of bulk but not much skill.

Packer and Ah Mau - When are they off contract?

The Knights are disgraceful.
They bought 12 players in the off season and are determined to play as many as possible every week, and the local boys are better. I've never seen such a bunch of nuffies.
I'm not going to torture myself by watching them anymore.
I'd watch if we were naming our best and struggling, but while they are leaving 4 or 5 good locals out for very ordinary guys they feel they owe a start to because they obviously tempted them to the club by telling them they would get a fair run - i'm not going to watch the trainwreck.
