If Saints don't want to lose any of these youngsters, it's best to give them a go in the NRL when they are down on troops so this game is another good opportunity for Latu to get the nod. Especially if he is getting itchy feet or approached by other clubs to leave. I am not aware of this just based on what was written in other posts about Latu which I hope are just rumours.

Flanno should pick based on form players from NSW cup not experience and from what we have seen Latu is the one with the form at the moment.

Also up against a young Parra pack is a good time to give a debut, even though it should not be an issue whichever team they play seeing Egan made his debut against the competition favourites.

Lawrie will be playing this week 100% and either RFM or Latu will be brought in for Stewart. Would be good to see Latu get a debut this week
Would be great to see Latu make his NRL debut this week v Parramatta.
He is the sort of player who would give us a real point of difference from the bench.
With the recent extensions of a few of the young guys, there is obviously a lot going on behind the scenes in the retention space, and I continue to hope that regardless of some negative whispers, that Latu will be one of the next players to extend his stay at the Dragons.

I guess this comes down to who do you want playing prop, replacing Guler?
Do you overload our forward pack with youngsters? Ie: LPT/Latu, Egan and Stewart?

It seems Stewart will be ok to play, just stitches in the wound. However, if it opens up during the game he may be sent off repeatedly to get it fixed = burn interchange each time. Big risk imo.

Obvious the Klemmer will start, but he wouldn't yet be 100% fit. Huge pressure on who is on the bench. Plus LPT is probably good for 20 mins per stint either side of half time.

So, do we play LPT, put JDB into the prop rotation, use Latu as the lock, with Cook dropping back there to cover. Give Stewart a week off and bring in an experienced bench forward ie RFM, although Eisenhuth is a possibility but again is he fit also.

Very interesting TLT ahead.

Stewart should have a week off he has a long career ahead and he is still young. Lawrie will take Gulers spot and either Latu or RFM will take Stewart's spot that's what I reckon will happen

If Stewarts face is ok, id play him again, with Guler out and Sele still not fit, and that 30th spot not filled.. probably all hands on deck for the next 3 weeks, granted the situation could be worse than it is now in 3 weeks time.

Im not sure who they will bring in, Lawrie despite his lackluster carries did do 70mins and did a lot of tackles etc.. it is reserve grade though so its not the same.. does seem like they made him do big minutes for the purpose of getting his match fitness back up after his injuries.

MMolo would have been my choice, he didnt do many minutes for some reason.. probably because of Lawrie doing 70 I guess.. and Tonga/Latu had some great impact, but I suspect its their defence that Flanno would be nervous about.

Assuming Sele isnt an option still.. or TomE.. but yeah no idea which way we will go..

I'll throw a little bouquet at Kyle Flanagan as well this week. It's pretty obvious now that our halves' mandate this year is just to get the ball to our edges asap, which they did again. But Kyle was definitely more involved v the Storm and did some nice things, particularly in the 2nd half. One of his bombs got us an "escort" penalty (shame Val hit the post with his kick), and there was another sharp piece of blindside play with Gutho that could've easily created a try for Tui. And defensively both he and Ilias were solid. Better stuff

We should utilise this more in our upcoming matches, especially Gutho linking with Sloan who has the pace to exploit short side gaps. I think it would add another variety in our attack. We like hitting our edges since it's our strength, why not double down especially if say the ctr is caught out at marker?

Could go to Su'a, who engages 2-3 defenders & it leads to the ctr & half at marker then Gutho plays short to Suli/Sloan against an out of position 2rf or 2v1 against the winger. Might be another avenue for easy meters since our middles struggle in that area.

This is exactly the game I expect us to lose. Great win last week, but I really hope we are weeding out the weak mentality that has pervaded the club roster for more than a decade - get the hard win every now and then, put the effort in sometimes, but put the cue in the rack when the game is important or against the shitiest team.

I hope and think we can spank Parra, but I also remember round 26 - Saturday 31st August 2024. Putrid.

At least we have senior players this year who have pride in the jersey and want to play for the club, fans and pay packet.
