Round 5 Vs Cowboys

It’s crazy that we have been no1 for post metres and 4th for metres gained etc

and even prior to the game against the Cowboys Guler was ranked 3rd best prop statistically in the comp?

that seemed like an error re Guler (who has improved this season) but ?

great to see we are almost the first team to crack 2000 tackles in 5 games !!!!

Practice makes perfect 😂

this next 4:5 rounds is going to be really hard to watch based on that game vs the Cowboys

I couldnt make it live to the game last night and thank god I didn’t go

wow

there has to be at least 3 tough calls

LKT and Atko and Gutho just looked terrible in attack due to a lack of cohesion and minimal broken play in the 3rd and 4th hit ups to start opening up play

when I watch the good teams in the sets they really create angles to get that one on one fast play of the ball which puts the defence on the back foot and not rushing up

breaking open the line to truly attack. We don’t do that? We play straight and predictable even before our halves or FB get the ball.

our kick chases were sobad and we didn’t cause any problems for the Cowboys in the air

we rarely competed for the ball in the air cause we didn’t get down there enough

wow

that was one of the hardest games to endure watching

thanks to Gutho for all his energy last two seasons and leadership but the guy is not what we need any longer

we either achieve a mid season transfer via Chevy Stewart or Trail Fuller within a week or so or Solan may have to go to FB now

I realise Fale did his ankle last night but we can’t have Fale and CT on the wing as oppositions know they can shred us with their wingers getting outside and opening us up

this club is at a point we need to move on a few right now that are not part of the solution as long as we can pick up a few right now

kerr
Sele
Lawrie
gutho
Sloan

at a minimum are not what we need in the best 17 as long as we can attract better replacements right now

that will be tough to achieve

Every other game we've looked like we were in with a chance. Not this one. That was a team that had given up. The forwards looked clueless as a group. I feel they've stopped trying because they know the backs will only mess up their hard work. If JDB was there, he might have been geeing them on but no-one is listening to Cookie. With young Flanno out of action the team performance has dropped off a cliff. Was he doing more to drive the team on-field than I have given him credit for?

I would've liked for nothing more than Flanagan to prove me wrong, unfortunately as time has gone by, my previous criticisms of Flanagan have only become more and more accurate.

On the bright side for me as a Dragons supporter and forum member, I am not disappointed because I never had high expectations with Flanagan as a our coach. My credibility on this forum remains in tact with my astute Flanagan related observations from the beginning. This is the least that I can say for many others on here.

The sooner yourself and other members of the forum, approach me to clear the air with an admission of their wrongs, the sooner we can all begin to move on and get behind the team and whomever the new coach will be.

Wait. So is it the coach that brought in the plodders like Gulay and Kerr, and resigned old farts like Cook, or is this on the board? Does Flanno coach the team to attack and defend? Just want to know exactly who is responsible for all this mess.

The recruitment has been abysmal to say the least, the main reason why we are currently in this predicament.
But we somehow did look better in attack last year with pretty much the same roster. Gutho was creating plenty of opportunities, Holmes looked so much better at left centre. Not sure why you would change it. Perhaps we miss Ryan Carr?

The one that frustrated me was we had made a great break, Cook goes from dummy half about 10 metres out, I think it was Clifford never got to marker and tackles him. Broken defensive line and try scoring situation professional foul. Ref just calls a six again and play continues.
Cook should of passed it overlap.
Then atko kicks it later in the same scenario.

Usually recruitment would be done by the recruitment team but ultimately the coach has final say outside of the rare situation where the board might intervene.

Looking at the make up of our side, its clear the recruiters and Flanno have targeted big, powerful players at the expense of faster, skilful types. Given all the rule changes of late have been about making the game faster, this is just pure neglect by our management and coach.

Yep I’d put my house on Carr gone being a factor

There is also a loss of morale/drive from the players. What is the cause ..unsure.

Both Gutho and Holmes look off the pace in 2026. Its not uncommon for older players to literally fall off a cliff when the time comes. Suspect both have gone one season to many and / or carrying injury.
