Round 7 vs Roosters

I hope you are right. Don’t like Mitchell’s behaviour and cheap shots. Euan’s only chance is to stay right in Mitchell’s face and do a Chambers on him. He can be put off his game and he is not a great defender when he is forced to make a decision.

"Do a Chambers on him"?! Sorry, how did that work out for Will in the origin series last year, let alone the Grand Final again? :D

Not saying Latrell Mitchell can't be put off his game, but I would not be using Will Chambers as the poster child to follow on this one.

An opposing centre in combination with his edge forward will shut down Mitchell every time providing both are drilled in the correct way to achieve this. Most important is their positional play and the ability for Hunt to cover his opposing number 6.

Alright Possm............I know this coaching gig that might be available sooner rather than later (hopefully) and the good news is that they hand out two year extensions like candy!!!!! You make great sense in your comment above...............more than anything ever
I have heard from McDuckwit!

If we focus too much on Mitchell then the others such as Tedesco, Manu and Cronk will have a field day.

The other issue here is the match-up with Rava V Tupou........like picking apples from a tree. Although I'm not in favour of playing Lomax on a wing, this match-up would be better with Lomax V Tupou. He could also do the goal-kicking.

That would be my only change to the starting side.

So what would Rava or Lomax do if Aitken becomes a turn style each time Mitchell gets the ball. If they leave their wing to help, the long pass is no for Tupou and if they decide to mark their man out on the wing - Tupou - then Mitchell will score untouched.

Aitken needs to give Mitchell no room to move and do his best to lock up the ball in the tackle. To do this you must read the attack very well and make sound decisions accordingly. Can anyone on here say Aitken can do this?

Based on some of the comments here it doesn't sound like there's much point showing up this week. Maybe we should just forfeit and get ready for Parramatta.

Roosters would have seen how Hunt kicked in behind Manly's defence pretty much all night, even on early tackles.

During our slump, team rushed up and disrupted our rhythm and we didn't know how to adjust. Hunt has fixed that now

Robinson will be telling them to back off expecting early kicks, so hopefully this will give us more room for Hunt and Norman to operate.
Great point Giboz and if that is the case then credit to the coaches . We got beaten at our peak last year by sides with rushing defenses early and a lot here wondered why we didn't kick behind it so credit when credit is due as the kick behind these defense patterns is the only antidote.

Makes me wonder where this tactical nous is coming from?

Even against the Dogs, our tactics of rushing Lewis where possible and smashing Okanbor at every opportunity worked a treat. Not even Melb and Souths were able to dominate the Dogs like we did.

Is there someone different in the coaching box we don't know about?

Aitken the Dragon with the toughest job on Anzac Day

Euan Aitken has the most daunting job in rugby league later this week - stopping a red-hot Latrell Mitchell on Anzac Day, fresh after his match-winning heroics in Melbourne.

Aitken admits he held his own with Mitchell in the corresponding fixture last year, but proved no match for the young Roosters pin-up when he went''put on a clinic'' the second time they met in round 20 and bagged three tries.

Tough ask: Euan Aitken must try to stop a red-hot Latrell Mitchell when the Dragons face the Roosters on Anzac Day.Credit:AAP

The excitement about Anzac Day started almost immediately among the Dragons players as they hit the showers at WIN Stadium after Saturday night's 12-10 win over Manly. New recruit Corey Norman was told he would experience one of the game's great spectacles.

As for Aitken stopping Mitchell, the right centre told the Herald it was almost a case of looking for ''redemption'' after the 21-year-old's last-start carve-up.

"Everyone knows he's a gun player, he's something special, he's a dynamic ball-runner, and we need to get up and take his time away,'' Aitken said.

"When the Storm left him a bit of space you could see how powerful he was and when he winds up he's quite quick. We need to get up and take his time away.

"He's very strong, he's 100-plus kilos, he has a palm and a good motor.

"The times you do struggle against him is when you give him space. He has that big left foot.

"The last game he got the wood over me. He was impressive that day. Anzac Day was a good duel, but later in the year they had a really good win and he put on a bit of a clinic.

"It's a challenge for me, I need to come back from that one and step up and there's a bit of redemption.''

"It's a big challenge for me, but coming up against the best players only makes you get better.

"He can get chirpy. He always gets chirpy. That's who he is as a person. It's fine, everyone is different off the field. We just have to try and take his time away.''

Even though the Dragons have had a dream month of results, including a couple of close ones, Aitken knows they need to go to another level to match it with the Bondi boys.

While defence had been solid in recent weeks, Aitken said their attack could improve.

"There's a lot of improvement, but good teams win the tight games, even when you're not playing at your very best - our best and worst games are getting closer together,'' he said.

Norman, who has always admired the lead-up and sentiment surrounding the Anzac Day games, said his teammates had told him what to expect at the SCG as they scrubbed up.

"I was in the shower then and the boys were talking about the atmosphere and how it's a game you just get up for. I'm really looking forward to my first experience,'' Norman said.

"The boys said it's electric out there. It's a short turnaround so we need to get our bodies right.''

Norman also had a lot of time for Mitchell and said: "He's one of those players you just have to try and do your best, take his time away from him and get in front of him. It's a hard task but it's what you have to do.''

St George Illawarra were brilliant against the Roosters last year as Tariq Sims went on a one-man mission and terrorised Cooper Cronk. Jack de Belin also had a big game as Brad Fittler stood on the sidelines for Channel Nine and realised he could have had up to half-a-dozen Dragons players in his first NSW Origin team.

The Roosters, however, have now won five on the bounce and have the benefit of Cronk and James Tedesco, two key members of their spine with a whole season under their belts at the club.

The best way to play Mitchell is to get into his face every time he has the ball, he gets rattled when that happens. Aitken needs to focus on taking him out.
Duffy needs to be lurking behind Norman and Hunt, Dufty can be a match winner.
I think Lomax should be starting just for his goal kicking. We will need every point we can get.

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has named his mandatory 21-man squad ahead of the Dragons' Round 7 traditional Anzac Day clash against the Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Dragons have named a completely unchanged squad following the Red V's 12-10 win over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles last weekend – their fourth consecutive victory.

The game will kick-off at 4:10pm, with the official Anzac Day ceremony to commence at 3:50pm.

Having met 17 times on Anzac Day since 2002, the Dragons have won 11 of the traditional fixtures – including last year's 24-8 win – with the Roosters winning six.

The Ashton-Collier Spirit of Anzac Medal will again be awarded to the Man of the Match which last year was won by Dragons back-rower Tyson Frizell.

Another huge crowd is anticipated at the SCG; the Dragons have encouraged fans to pre-purchase their tickets from Ticketek.

St George Illawarra fans will again be given the opportunity to bid on player-worn commemorative jerseys leading into the NRL's Anzac Round. The auction will commence on Wednesday, April 24 with a proportion of the funds again to be donated to the Australian War Memorial.

Cleary isnt named for the Roosters. Mitchell to 5/8 with Aubusson at centre.
Lachlam Lam has been brought in to the 17, wouldnt surorised to see a late change to the starting line-up for them

Understand keeping a winning 17 together but I do feel Rava needs to go and Lomax in... Rava will be targeted in a big way and whilst he can finish a move he can’t catch a high ball in defence.. added against the roosters we will need the extra forward on the bench and would be tempted to give Lachlan Timm a shot

Yep he could be found with his pants down come Thursday , unless someone very quickly teaches him how to take the high ball and also how to tackle .

For mine he ( at this early stage of his career ) has more negatives than positives about him .

Bring in Lomax for ball security and the young fella also knows his way to the try line as well as the added bonus of his very accurate goal kicking.

The real change that should be made for the ANZAC Day game is:
Pearson in for Rav
Lomax in for Aitken
Aitken on the Bench
This move should have been made about 3 weeks ago.
