So probably the highest paid player on the field is also the worst by a country mile.
I've always loved Kurt's effort and heart, but more and more he's a guy you would be happy to have at about $275/season rather than any sort of marquee star (especially at halfback).
There are just too many classy playermakers in the comp to ever truly be happy with Kurt Gidley as your big-name halfback.
Peter Wallace, just as an example, would be on a hell of a lot less money.
Anyway... the positives:
Mason - Awesome already. Danny strolled through because Panthers were so worried about big Willie's first run. I loved him screaming at his teammates to support him: "I've got my arm free you idiots, don't you know who i am!!!! I'm Willie Mason, and I am going to pass this football while 4 guys hang off me!! Are you ready yet?"
Boyd - Definitely looks more interested. Not perfect, but he's involved and a few classy touches.
Taia - playing powerfully.
Tahu - Really good, turning back the clock.
The overall intensity level is much higher than most our games this year. If we brought that and only that to every match, we wouldn't have games like the Eels one where we just plain sucked from the first to the 80th.
