Round 8 vs Roosters

Without sugar coating it - severely disappointed.

It's a case of de ja vu. We haven't stood up on ANZAC Day for the best past of the last seven seasons (with one outlier being 2022). It's very much a habit for us now and a true litmus test of where we are as a football club these days.

Second time this year, we come into the game against the team which was running last in the comp prior to kick off and we don't come away with any result. Just more question marks and no real answers as to how we will go forward and possibly achieve something out of this season (that would be a better result than the last season).

Blake Lawrie is seriously ineffective. Needs to see his time out in reserve grade provided we have the other troops onboard (i.e. Hamish Stewart who will come back from concussion protocols). Unfortunately though, due to our lack of depth, Blake probably plays several more games this year.

Emre Guler - this is not turning out to be the buy we hoped. Has a lot of work to do. Otherwise we need to come up with a way to get Loko Jnr up into the top flight as soon as we can (and even though he's on the way to the Bulldogs - Finau Latu as well).

I'm not sure what the answer is in terms of our halves and believe we'll be stuck. They are going to remain hot & cold (with today being very cold). King-Togia and Glover are unlikely to be any better or worse, at least in the context of this season. I don't think we should be moving Gutho into 6 and upping his defensive workload, and I don't see the coach panicking into this move (but if one of the halves goes down injured this might need to happen forcefully at some point).

We have no grunt in terms of the wingers getting in there and doing the dirty work coming out of our own end. This is why Tui will get picked when fit. Maybe we do need to look at getting Allan and Lawson in there somehow? Again, I don't think the coaching staff will be panicking just yet.

Magic Round - we haven't won a game
Tigers - have a reasonable record in games at Suncorp, including Magic Round (from memory)
Dragons - we fall into hoodoos easily and take years to break them (ANZAC Day game heading in this direction not to mention the Storm and Raiders hoodoos which went for decades)

Anyway - we'll be back to go through it all again next week...

Being at the game really highlighted 2 big issues, our halves are aimless and ineffective and our forwards appeared to have their feet in mud bogs most of the game. I wont be entertaining any thoughts of success after today…just horrible.
Ful respect for being there today. What an absolute joke of a performance this one has fired me up. If you can't get up for Anzac day then what the f**k good are we !! Useless

Maybe recruit DCE and put Atkinson at 6 for 2056.

For 2025, maybe we could try:

1. Ramsey
2. Sloan
3. Flannagan
4 Holmes
5. Lawson
6. Gutherson
7. Glover
8. Coachman
9. Liddle
10. Klemmer
11. Suli
12. Su'A
13. Debelin

14. Cook
15. Leilua
16. Stewart
17. Eagan

Our pack is still missing a couple of good props. If we can't sign any for this year, put Leilua in the middle, Suili as edge forward and Ramsey wither at fullback or left center.

We have to make changes because what we are doing isn't working.
Well, if we're doing Names From a Hat team selections, how's about this 'un:

Gutheson / Sloan, Allan, Holmes, Lawson/ LKT, Cook/ Couchman, Liddle, Klemmer, Egan, Su'a, JdB + Pacifiki-Tonga, Lawrie, Stewart, K Flan 18th: Liu

We new we had a lack of forwards.
And we didn't sign anyone like RCG or Safiti.
Today side to side running instead of straight.

Finau. Ran about 180m, took the ball up strongly and tackled the same. Couple of errors, nerves it being his first full game. To me he looks every bit a first grader.
I'm not writing him off on one performance but he has a fair bit to improve in his game.

I am gutted by all reports Lawson is not first grade ready yet. We could do with him firing. Bigger, stronger, athletic and still with speed.

11. Sua
12. Eagle
13. Debelin
14. Cook
15. Stewart
16. Lawrie/Leilua

The fact that we didn't land either of these guys (many reasons why including that our recruitment & retention staff + policies need a massive review and overhaul) is definitely biting us on the backside.

Did you see his defence! I’m Deffs a huge fan of his attacking meters! But defence is garbage!! Very evident today
What was evident was the defensive pattern was shit house from go to whoa

Players running in to try and do a bone crushing tackle left gaping holes for them to exploit.

Plenty worse than the young winger who acquired himself very well considering how ordinary the entire team was.

Luc, Cook, Cake, KF, LI, E G all missed a number of key tackles that gave the men outside no chance and not sure what V H was thinking with some of his efforts.
