Dragons were outplayed and out coached. Was happy to see Mary show some balls and hook Aitken. The comeback meant nothing. Storm had our measure and took their foot off the gas. Just like the cowboys comeback against us. Some dodgy ref calls there but Melbourne were a class above. A lot for the team to learn from that one.

Some of it is fact mate, not saying we are the better team just need more of a fair go sometimes. Are your eyes painted on?
No my eyes are fine, we had 50/50 calls go our way a bit too. I thought the Cronk sin binning would have been torn apart by this forum if it was a Dragon sent for example.

Good fight back, dudded early with tough calls and defence was majorly exposed but last 25 mins or so was solid eventhough a man up.
I can only hope they learn from this going forward and plenty still to improve plus Widdop there would help massively. Mann was pretty good too and should only get better.

The real influences on this game were the instructions given by either coach. It was a contest between the Coaches and Mary lost by a mile. The fact that we only scored one less try after all the ref calls that went against us and the way we went through the Storm in the second half, showed me that we have the cattle but the plan was wrong. In fact the up and in defensive plan and the Aitken instead of Milne decisions were the real things that costed us the game.

No worries,so the first 30 mins of the game were all good then by the refs. I thought that was the area of posts we were all talking about. That got them on the front foot massively but we weren't the better team overall,i understand that.

Said this early on in the season. Our halves in 2017 should be Mann and Widdop. Got bagged for it no end. 'Mann is not a half'. 'Mann would be no good in the halves, he is a winger'.

He's a decent half but the way he was using his speed and footwork, he'd go well at FB as well. That way Duges can plug the hole at right centre.

And before everyone jumps on me and say we can't risk his defence, Duges was far from perfect in defence today. Can't keep using that as the excuse he should be FB, given what he lacks in attack.

Look what Slater did for them, kick/pass try assists and a classic FB try. We have nothing of the sort with Duges at FB.

Now, for all those who want Dugan to be signed up no matter how much it costs , would it be worth it if it meant we lose Mann , Milne & Lafai ?
That is the problem. In hindsight you'd wonder why we made Aitken such a priority when we have Milne on our books.

Milne and Mann were two of our best backs last year and have ended up in Siberia this year.

The up and in defensive plan failed us last year, failed us in round two this year and what does our coach do, employs this failed plan against the team running first in the competition.

If it meant losing that many players the answer would be no.

I like Josh but to completely cripple the team just to sign him makes no sense.

Coast ,that's the point. Some on here advocate " whatever it takes " and blast Millward when their favorite player hasn't been signed up. We would all love to keep him but there is a budget to keep .He can't pass the ball under pressure and showed it again today. . I applaud Millward for the stance he is making.

With the way Mary plays his reserves he would likely never get a run, I wonder about Aitkin being 4th reserve. Can cover us in the backs but could also come on in the forwards as well. Milne would come in at centre. With Aitkns "power running" he might prove a real game breaker for us.

The two things apart from refereeing decisions that will stop us going a long way this year is our wing defence and our kicking in general play. If changes need to be made to improve those areas then they need to be made now.

Aitken in particular has been singled out again and again by some knowledgeable observers on this forum and it cost us in a huge way today. Sele and Milne looked good and deserve the chance to show their wares, maybe giving Aitken a rest will a be a bit of long term gain for some short term pain. That is unless of course he's acting on McGregor's instructions to rush up all the time.

In regards to our kicking in general play, does anyone know if Mann can kick? I haven't really seen much from him in this regard. The best kick I saw today was the one from Dugan where we trapped them in goal, which is pretty sad when you consider how many kicks McCrone and McInness had.

Having said all that I'm still really proud of our team, I thought they did a great job today all things considered. They showed a ton of heart which is all of us can really ask from them at the end of the day. Thanks for a really good performance boys.

Duges gave it his all as per usual but was far from perfect. He missed some cover tackles that maybe could of saved tries and didn't provide much in attack. Would have to go with keeping Mann,Milne and lafai over him if thats was the case but don't know what Millward is thinking there.
