Reason for optimism with easily our best performance of the year. We seem to deliver some special performances against the Broncos, especially Nathan but a much better defensive effort from the team was the key and even Talagi, Tago, Jenkins, Smith etc looked alright. We need to build on it though if we are to make any sort of push for the 8.

Garner looked good at centre, hands I didn’t expect, but I fear we’ll come up against a team that’ll run a fast fullback around the back and we’ll remember why centres are centres and back rowers are back rowers.

We pretty much have to play him there for now though, but I’d rather he wasn’t there come finals.

Sorro might not have a spot in our first 17 at full strength. If Garner isn’t centre then he’s on the bench for the versatility, Henry and Patea obvs on the bench too, Patea has really deserved more first grade than he’s gotten but can’t be denied now. And we shouldn’t run 4 forwards on the bench.

I don’t really like either Sommerton or Toelau at present and would like Cole in the 14, both do have some promise and might take themselves to the next level but Cole feels more complete atm.

Confident Talagi will improve, he’s throwing himself in there the right way.

This game felt like a game of old where they’re all over us for the first ten but fade and we just keep going and going. Somehow it had that feel about it from the start.

Reece Walsh.

But even today Reece Walsh doesn't get Brisbane home. We owned them.

What a great performance. Besides conceding the first try (again) and a few early bone headed plays we looked every bit a contender. A few observations:

- Tago had a great game both in attack and defence. He looks like a different player since the demotion

- Patea fills the void left by Leniu. It was great to see actual impact from the bench.

- The new signings are starting to gain the team cohesiveness that was missing earlier in the season. Talagi is starting to look comfortable in the halves and dangerous with ball in hand. Papali’i played well and is improving each week.

- Garner was unreal at centre. Solid defensively and unlocked Jenkins nicely.

- Sommerton played well, I’d like to see him retained at 14 when Kenny returns.

- Nathan’s best game this season.

Great game today.

Can’t really fault any of the players.

Almost spat out my beer when I saw Martin take a hit up in a yardage set. He then f**ked off back to his edge all game. He really isn’t pulling his weight.

Patea was very good. He really changed the game with his first stint.

The most pleasing thing for me was that I thought we left a ton of points out on the field, Nathan kicking for Edwards when Sommerton was on the inside and would have scored under the posts. Talagi chancing a pass instead of just pinning his ears back. Another one at least that I can’t think of right now.

Brisbane are very ordinary when Haas and Carrigan are not on the field at the same time.

Need to string another 3-4-5 wins together now. Make the top 8 and no one will want to be playing us. I know premierships aren’t won in April and May - but can certainly lose them.

Great performance and well done by Ivan. Both edges really stood up and after absorbing that first 15 the whole side really dug in and had a crack. That stint defending our line for 5 sets midway through the first felt like a huge turning point for our season.

Breakout game for Patea. Papali’i was fantastic. Cleary dominated but I particularly liked his intent in defence, that’s a great sign. Tago has a great game, he’s getting back to his best which is huge for us. Sommerton much better and crisper service.

Loved the Cleary try, must have rattled the Broncs watching that replay on the big screen. Also loved Edwards somehow herding two ponies towards the sideline to shut that break down. He had an average game but that was crazy.
