It appeared like the Broncos were going to name a full-strength side until Payne Haas went down at training with a knee injury. Kevie says it's only minor but not a good sign heading into a big game against the Roosters.

I thought the scoreline in the Round 1 clash flattered the Broncos and the Roosters were far too good. There were enough intangibles to let the Broncos off the hook, but this ought to be a game that they win if they're going to challenge in September. Home game, full-strength against a team that has plenty of strike but can be picked apart with the right tactics.

Brisbane have plenty of strike of their own, but lack the patience to control games. If they can correct that and go set for set with the Roosters, it will prove the difference.

Would love to see Ezra have a big game after the first meeting.

Disappointing but predictable loss. We can’t match it with the chooks and panthers especially when they’re aggressive.

I’m not sure I want to see Reynolds next year if he’s just going to be in and out of the side, he’s going to end up being a hindrance on the side, his body has given up on him. Can Madden push us into the finals and how far away is Black?

On the bright side, Willison is a ridiculous talent.

The reshuffle f**ks us everytime since we got rid of Capewell. Do they not train for this? I mean I get it, tonight was a crazy excessive reshuffle in the second half but the first half reshuffle really affected us and the game got away when it shouldn't have.
Mam and Walsh would love several moments of that first half back in attacking territory.
Never got momentum back after Riki's knock on after levelling the game and then Mariner's brain snap was a death blow.

The Broncos 2024 campaign was dealt a horrific blow after Adam Reynolds suffered a torn bicep following an attempted tackle on Junior Pauga. The incident occurred during the early stages of the second half as the Broncos attempted to claw back an 18-6 deficit.

It proved a frustrating night for the Broncos after they failed to capitilise on multiple chances. Livewires Ezra Mam and Reece Walsh were guilty of taking early tackle kicks that resulted in cheap turnovers and instead of turning the screws on the Roosters, they allowed their classy opposition to level the scores.

The complexion of the game would change moments later after Jesse Arthars broke his jaw after he attempted a big hit on his opposite Dominic Young only to come reeling out of the tackle. This caused a reshuffle and the Roosters were able to exploit the defensive change to go into the sheds up 18-6.

Following the injury to Reynolds it appeared it was going to be a long night for the Broncos. However the Broncos rallied and laid on back to back tries to give themselves a sniff. They had a chance at taking an unlikely lead, but a forced pass from Reece Walsh led to a poor knock on from Riki and the Roosters took over from there.

It seemed from that point on, anything they could go wrong for the Broncos did with Deine Mariner going to sin-bin after a careless shoulder charge on Tedesco and Mam found himself going for an HIA after heavy friendly fire from Selwyn Cobbo.

It was a shame because the Broncos appeared to show more ticker in the second half but effectively circumstances beyond their control made life difficult and gave one team a massive advantage. It's another game that calls into question the necessity to review the bench to make for a fair contest.

Does Walsh go into the halves with Reynolds gone long time or do you hope your back up half is up to every week first grade footy

The issues with Mama and Walsh are very similar to those of Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell at Souths - when there is a half chanbce they try and force the "big play" everytime. When it comes off it leads to great tries, but when it doesn't, it often leads to a turn over of possession. That's where losing Reynolds will hurt the Broncos longer term, he is able to rein in Walsh's and Mam's overly aggressive instincts and makle them realise you need to let the plays develop rather than force them.

Is it just me or was the forward pack better when Haas was out?

There was reports in the media this morning that his recently operated knee swelled up during the game. If so, it may have effected his play last night.
