A lot of speculation in British press and on social networking sites that St Helens have called a press conference for tomorrow morning (Tonight in Aus) and a lot of people are adamant is to announce the sacking of Simmons.

Posted in the Superthread. Remains to be seen whether it's the right move but his tactics and selections have been questionable this year, and last year to be fair.

I think his off season purchases have been a bit iffy.

They really didn't need Hohaia imo. The new halves he brought throiugh last year looked to be settling in well.

Not enough old heads in the side.

He could do with Ellis I reckon.

Daniel Anderson would be mad to turn them down if Royce gets sacked.

He's too good a coach to be stuck on ABC with Debbie Spillaine.

They signed Hohaia ages ago though. Who knows how well the kids were going to do. On this years performances they need all the help they can get.

Also they need some older heads in the side.

Roby getting injured doesn't help.

I think he would be mad to go back myself. The expectations that he can take the current saints team to the heights of the previous one would be to much.

The act of replacing one of the best props in the game with an average Aussie second rower should of given the management casue for concern.

Id be incredibly shocked if Ando went back over seas. He wanted to come back to Australia for a while, so did his family.

I don't believe that, Lomax, Gaskell and Wheeler were all good in their opportunities last season, Gaskell particularly and has pushed on this season, most supporters at the signing of Hohaia scratched their heads and expected him to end up exactly as he has - filling a bench utility role or covering injuries.

Roby is that team, without him they're headless, shouldn't go sacking the coach after a couple of narrow losses though.

Keiran Cunningham and Mike Rush have been appointed caretaker coaches at St Helens following the departure of former Penrith great Royce Simmons in the wake of the Super League club's fourth consecutive defeat.

Four straight losses and they sack him? That is over the top in anyone's language. ST Helens are seriously bordering on epic choker territory at present. They remind me of the 1990's Buffalo Bills side that lost 4 straight Super Bowls.

Excuse this late posting, but my impression is to agree with what I have heard from people in St Helens. The coach sacking had much to do with the senior players not liking the new regime. That older players have been brought back into the first team would seem to bear that out. As a Saints follower, I find that very worrying.
