Roy's future

South Sydney officials may be denying it but Roy Asotasi's future at the club is anything but secure. The former ''solo'' skipper and Bulldogs prop has suffered a horrendous run of injuries since joining the club in 2007 and while he is under contract for 2013, English Super League clubs are circling. A number of clubs have expressed interest in signing the former Kiwi international, who hopes to be back on the field if South Sydney make the finals after suffering a ruptured pectoral muscle. The 30-year-old has missed close to two full seasons of NRL due to injury and has struggled to find the form that inspired the side to the finals in 2007. With big-dollar back-rower Dave Taylor leaving the club at year's end and money still in the cap after the departure of Chris Sandow, Souths will have plenty of room to move in 2013 to sign marquee players if they let Asotasi go.

It was Roy that was amongst the first big name players that came to the club, at a time when no one decent would come to play for us.

He has had his injuries, and each time he has started to come back into fitness/form he has copped another one. That said, he still has plenty to offer, and the club will keep him into next year.

IMHO, the only chance this changes is if he gets a big long term contract in the UK, and he decides that he will take it up.

Either way, he is a great clubman both on and off the field.

agree Ziggy.
If Roy gets a long term lucrative offer from Superleague and he wants out of 2013 , we should release him.Else Roy completes his contract with us with dignity through 2013.

Maybe they should see, if they can spread some interest in him overseas, it won't be his agent, would NZ be interesting...ha ha does he feel home sick ...

We must remember Roy was our first big signing late in 2006 for season 2007.His signing led to other established Internationals signing on.

Gee's guys he signed a $500k deal for 5 years with you, thats a dream come true for a prop!

You'd think he did you guys a favour.

He got the best deal EVER for a bench front rower from another team.

I'd be filthy as a bunnies fan if a similar scenerio was at my club!

Back then we weren't in the same position we are in now. We were just coming off the least successful 5 years any club has had in the modern era. No player on the right side of 30 wanted anything to do with us.

We'd offer more than anyone else and they still wouldn't come anywhere near us because of how much losing we had done. We were like Parra or Cronulla are now. Only getting 2nd rate players at 1st rate prices.

We now have a number of internationals in our team. Roy was the beginning of the change.

We get laughed at for not making the finals but the 7th and 9th and 10th we've finished since 2007 (except 08) is a world away from where we were before Roy.

Yes he's on overs. But before him players would get an overpriced offer from us and still ignore us. His impact on us and our reputation among players is very underrated.

Roy has done us proud and yes he deserves to stay, but if he were to get a UK offer and from that we get a chance to retain DT or recruit some similar talent we should look long and hard at this.Management now needs to stand tall and speak with DT and convince him his future is as a Bunnie and do what it takes to make his family happy to stay in Sydney.
