It appears that Monaghan and Wiki have been given permission to negotiate with other clubs before the June 30 deadline.

Despite his age I still believe Wiki is one of the better second rowers and competitors in the game today - I would implore the club to make him a priority signing for 2005.

His appearance on the field for the Raiders lifts the team. In defence he adds the fear factor that the Eels lack.

While it is unlikely that he would leave Canberra I would place an offer in front of him that would be very hard to turn down.

Wiki's a great player. However, haven't we just beefed up the front row? Behind Vella, Canings, Tsoulos, Stapleton, Armit etc, where do you play him?

I'd be more interest in Monaghan, we need a quality centre to replace Jamie Lyon.

I can't believe people are thinking we should "place an offer in front of him that would be very hard to turn down". After overpaying Adam Dykes for 4 years I hardly think blowing all the club's money on one import is the way to go, especially when he is getting on in years.

The offer doesn't necessarily have to be about money - and its just my opinion - not too many have agreed with me. We can offer a lot more than just money - coaching, management, scouting...... anything that makes it more attractive other than money becase he won't leave Canberra just for more money.

My reasoning is that we have not had any one person in the pack - Hindy excepted - that has a presence since Dean Pay. He wants to play on for at least two years according to an interview I heard earlier this year. He would be able to teach more to he younger players in our club than what Pearson was apparently signed for....

You see i'd like to agree with you, but I don't think we can offer him anything more than money at the moment. The bad publicity about and Smith and poor form at Parramatta means we are very unlikely to attract players unless we're offering them a big fat check. I can't see any reason why a player would want to play for Parramatta at the moment, I'd say we're right down there with Souths and Nth Qld in attracting quality players at the moment.

I'm with you Colonel.

One, maybe two years. Give him a mandate to be the 'enforcer'. The guys ball runners look to avoid. And he takes Tsoulos, Armitt and Cordoba under his wing.

I can see your point Colonel but Wiki seems to me that he is a player who would only perform at 1 club (ie. has been at canberra forever and performed...take him out of that environment and he would struggle). That's my take.

Colonel, you have now named three high price players that we should get, but how will we fit them all?

Easily - cut some of our own high priced players that aren't doing there jobs.

I can easily name them - Vella, Dykes and Wagon. Whilst I think they are good players what we have outlayed for them has not been repaid.

Take out the big $ to Lyon, Vella (he'll be resigned but not to Test prop $) and Dykes, and you have close to a Mil to spend.

Or else just get the Roosters to balance your books, you won't have any trouble fitting players under the cap.

We will have about a million. Realistically lets target, Fletcher, Wiki, Head or Kurt Gidleynd Graham from Canberra.

I like Fletcher, but he's only one year younger than Wiki and would be asking for big dollars. He's also a little injury prone with those old knees. I'd prefer to go for some younger talent in the forwards department like Kite & Pritchard. Adam Woolnough is also off contract with the Knights I believe.

Colonel, if you're looking for a leader type player that goes hard all day and lifts a side then look no further than Glenn Morrison. He's a must signing if you ask me. At 28 he's still got alot of good football left in him as well as offering some experience and aggression to our forward pack. One of the best locks going around.

A new coach and some experianced players are what is needed. Rubin Wiki, Matt Orford and Morrison would be great buys. Hopefully Parra has the money, too bad Dykes isnt off contract this season.
