Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent - Lomax case settled

I was watching the review of a study yesterday. Interesting the findings were that people who said they are right about their opinions (topic irrelevant) 90% of the time were proven to only be correct about things 53% of the time.

Not aimed at anyone. But it’s probably likely to apply to some people on here.
Yourself included....

Brent Read - “Talk out of Europe on Friday morning suggested R360 was teetering on the brink of collapse.”
This flog has been the loudest proponent in the Global media that it was definitely going to happen …maybe next week he will pivot back to that

As expected … Read is back this week to it’s still happening… contracts to be sent out in coming days and player announcements to follow…

He also mentions Lomax, Paps and Haas all linked to 360 apparently

CEO of the Rugby League Players Association, Clint Newton, has criticised Peter V’landys for going public with a threat to ban players defecting to R360 and says it would never hold up in court.

And Clint is right. No different to how the draft was challenged in court. Restrain of trade is a serious thing.

Clint’s a Dennis denuto

And once they leave they are no longer covered by the rlpa unless he’s angling for a new job

Guys a dope

Draft was ruled illegal as there was no public benefit to having it

This is different

Pvl will argue r360 doesn’t invest in juniors and by allowing them to raid league it will result in less juniors in Australia

That’s why he’s only banned players going to r360 and not union calling it an unsanctioned comp

Clint Newton is whingeing about the player bans. It makes Newton and the RLPA look weak and uninformed. What Newton and the RLPA should do is their due diligence on r360. At the moment:

*r360 hasn't been launched
*no player announcements
*where is the money coming from?
*no CEO
*no teams
*no draw
*no World Rugby approval

There's many other issues, and r360 only has 10 months to kick off. Newton should try to get as much info as possible and have the players reliably informed. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

To me he tries to look like some wannabe tough guy union boss rallying against the establishment. And yeah he works for the RLPA not the RU360PA so its in his interests if players don't leave you'd think.
That's exactly what players would want though right? Putting aside the R360 context, it's in player's interests to have an RLPA that isn't afraid to push back on the establishment. Newton's just doing his job really, like PVL is.

He should be interested in win win for both the players and the NRL… what does he and the remaining players still paying their dues that he will continue to represent gain by losing members to rival organisations?

Maybe nothing; maybe less than what they get today. So yea, the outcome may not be in the RLPA's financial interest.

But they have committed themselves to representing player interests and the ban (rightly or wrongly) impinges on them. So as I say, he's just doing his job.

Funnily enough, someone leaves and someone joins. So his best interests exist in getting the best deal for players to have as much power as possible. Things like contracts will be the sticking points if they have one for players who want to play elsewhere like it was for SBW.

Thing is we have let players who left the code to play another sport before like SBW, Benji and RTS return to the game. So what is different about this comp? More money? I'm not sure given the previous allowances, the NRL also taking Rugby players, that they would have much of a leg to stand on. It basicially just comes back to restraint of trade.

Either way, if a Haas left and then decided he wanted to come back and play NRL, do you really think PVL would stand in his way? Not a chance. If you are good enough, the NRL will always open the door again.

It’s not sanctioned by rugby union

And does no junior development

Pvl will argue stopping them protects the public interest in Australia

As I said, if they are targetting actual stars of our game, not guys just looking for a quick buck, PVL is not standing in the way if they want to return.

At the moment it's all bluster from PVL to scare player managers off, but if these guys get serious throwing money around with a more concrete plan and actuall Rugby Union players starting to sign. I don't think the NRL could do much but hope it falls in a heap and those guys want to return. If the money is true, it's hard for a lot of players hitting there prime, last years to ignore the opportunity to earn money that will set themselves up for life. It's really player managers who are getting the short straw in this situation.
