And yet Mark went from a nobody into a house hold name.

Doesn't say much for union does it?

FYI Marks roosters are sponsored by BYD, are they up to your standard of sponsorship?
Again buddy, nobody cares outside of your goldfish bowl. It’s the equivalent of being the local GAA player here.

If it was so great then he’d be staying. He isn’t for a reason. I know it’s hard when you live in a timezone divorced from most of the rest of the civilised world, but there’s a big bad world out there.

Rugby league is propped up by pokies
Haha, bro still thinks its 1995
French club rugby is doing just fine. They have diverse finances from diverse competitions.
Gemini disagrees

Weaknesses: The "Sugar Daddy" Model
  • Structural Losses: Despite high revenue, the majority of Top 14 clubs operate at a loss.
  • Dependency on Backers: Many clubs are dependent on wealthy individuals (presidents) to cover annual losses. This poses a long-term risk if backers withdraw.
  • High Costs: The league is an arms race for talent, leading to massive player salary expenditures, which account for about 38% of club spending.
  • Rising Deficits: While some clubs like Toulouse, La Rochelle, and Bordeaux have achieved sustainable profitability, others (historically Toulon and Stade Français) operate as "money sinks". Reports in 2025 indicated a 10% increase in losses for some clubs compared to the previous season.

Does he become a “superstar” again when he might be on the way back the NRL and the media are looking to appeal to the low rent types slobbering over their McDonalds breakfast?

To be honest he would be considered a super star coming back. He is a handy player to have in your team and is still young enough to contribute well. Hopefully not back at the Roosters. Be nice to go to the Warriors.

And yet our " fish bowl " is the world largest Rugby comp by every metric.

Oh, excluding the world cup of course ;)

And what is the ARU doing to do about cash, they had the Lions tour and it's another 11yrs before it happens again, then another cash injection next year. But then they have to pray that money can last until the Lions tour again and the murmurs of no cash will commence again as they throw the money away as they normally do thinking the game is turning the corner in Australia.

Rugby league is propped up by pokies and broadcasters like DAZN who are making massive losses.

Like deary me chap, French football is getting less than 40% from their direct to consumer model than they were from tv rights after things went pop. Waaaaakkkkke uuuuup.

Nah pokies are just a bonus

Nrl salary cap 12.5 million
Nrl club grant 17.5 million to 20 million

English club rugby union

Salary cap 6.4 to 7.8 million pounds
Club grant 3.3 million pounds

The new tv deal will see an increase of around 250 million pa

Which is more than every Union tv deal combined at club level and probably international too

Nrl = sustainable and popular

Based on your logic, then the NFL and NBA are also propped up by broadcasters like CBS, ABC, Fox, ESPN o_O :p

If Manu came back to the NRL, he'd come back to the Roosters. It wouldn't be to the Warriors. It's not the same boat as RTS. RTS only left the Roosters for the Warriors as the Warriors threw heaps of money at him in the first place for 2016 the english league player (who's name escapes me atm) left to return to the UK which left them with oodles of cap room. Later when RTS went to Union, he returned to the Warriors. Manu doesn't have that same attachment to the Warriors that RTS did.

Oh I get that, and Uncle Nick would be having a serious word to him about coming back. I was just thinking what would be good for the game itself.

Heck even the NRL website called him thay

Haha, Manu wouldn't even make the Roosters starting team, Toia and Smith are both better centres.

But its cute you think he's a "super star "

Roosters have good juniors

Better focus on them than give manu suaali even Marky mark a chance back

Manu before he left was average and he’s getting over the hill

Suaali never justified the hype and he’s on 1.7 million pa he’s not worth half in league

What's incredible is all your ranting for 2 pages was done during a standard Union stoppage.

Nah Many is pretty bloody good. I'll take an inform Manu over either of them.

NRL teams are stacked with superstars because they can be! You can run the ball , put on a hit, take a chance!
You can't do that in that stupid kick and clap nonsense. If you are able to do half what you do in league, you're a star but it's only a fraction of the playing group that get an opportunity.

Union draws at international level because it has to. It's domestic game doesn't draw, because it can't. Shrinking TV deals and attendances, backward thinking with regards to production, promotion and merchandising. Rules which don't translate to potential new audiences.

Yes there is a World Cup that draws, and honestly, leaguies are envious of that...but not at the expense of the NRL. The NRL is the benchmark for rugby competitions of either code.

It will be interesting to see the effects of expansion and dilution of the rugby world cup to make it more attractive to TV and sponsors. The All Blacks could very realistically break the 1995 record when they play HK next year. Sure union has a bigger global footprint, but Magic the Gathering has a bigger one...my point being..."so what?" And the answer will be, "tv money of course".

Players will chase bigger contracts, but Union of all codes should understand one or two players leaving hardly shifts the hands of the Doomsday clock. For every Mathew Ridge a Christian Cullen is discovered. For every Lote Tuqiri a Greg Inglis etc. Manu was a great contributor to the game and at the peak of his powers when he left...the game has produced a dozen equally talented stars since then. If he comes back, sweet! If he doesn't, sweet! If Clearly leaves, sweet! If he doesn't, sweet!
