Gemini disagrees
Weaknesses: The "Sugar Daddy" Model
- Structural Losses: Despite high revenue, the majority of Top 14 clubs operate at a loss.
- Dependency on Backers: Many clubs are dependent on wealthy individuals (presidents) to cover annual losses. This poses a long-term risk if backers withdraw.
- High Costs: The league is an arms race for talent, leading to massive player salary expenditures, which account for about 38% of club spending.
- Rising Deficits: While some clubs like Toulouse, La Rochelle, and Bordeaux have achieved sustainable profitability, others (historically Toulon and Stade Français) operate as "money sinks". Reports in 2025 indicated a 10% increase in losses for some clubs compared to the previous season.
Mate, when that new TV deal comes through, you'll disappear, we all know it. And we'll see you again next bargaining round. Good times!AI Christ above, another illustration of why so many of you fall behind.
It’s like an addict finding money on the street with the last decade of inflated tv rights and yet you still can’t stop the players to rugby. Tick tock.

That’s $1.1bn AUD.
For Six Weeks of one tournament.
And you were bragging about one year of revenue in the only tournament of value and SOO in RL?
And this after the decade of spin the wheel winnings when you were at your peak?
No wonder the NRL media got so giddy over the Bookie getting invited to a corporate event outside of Australia. Just so small time.
Why would I disappear?Mate, when that new TV deal comes through, you'll disappear, we all know it. And we'll see you again next bargaining round. Good times!
Revenue is not profit for the NRL either.Revenue is not profit. Out of that players need to be paid, grounds need to be hired and all the other elements that go into making an event like this.
Revenue is not profit for the NRL either.
Honestly lads, embarasssssssing. Was it holidays in Bali this year that ticked the box of you being so worldly?
Honestly, Rugby Union would be better off packaging domestic footy as a single package as well. Super Rugby and Super League are very much in the same boat. Why would I disappear?
TV deal could go up a bit with the new time slot (they might even dangle some more of that “contra” stuff to impress you all) but there’s two more teams to fund.
Simple facts are the macro tailwinds globally have gone the other way on global broadcast rights. You won’t get that on Gemini (like honestly lads) and you certainly won’t get it from the townie media that cover the NRL, but it’s happening. The media org that the Bookie thinks will pay mega bucks for a Super League/NRL rights combo is losing over 1 billion a year (that’s in real currency, not Aussie fun money) and is cutting rights left right and centre but the message hasn’t got through yet. It’s particularly funny given how they are looking to do it with the AFL too but we aren’t dealing with serious scrutiny when it comes to this stuff and you lot.

Nrl will have added four new clubs at the same time 20 pro and semi pro union clubs have died off with probably another ten to follow
Until union deceases its salary cap to a level it can afford more clubs will follow
I don’t think the nrl stops at 20 clubs either
Adelaide and Ipswich will be included
That townhouse listing in Lisbon still saved on ya airbnb app or nah?Revenue is not profit for the NRL either.

NZ domestic rugby is a good watch. Kiwi fans are usually easily to have these sorts of yarns with too, especially if they're in the regions and experience the decline and neglect of top-heavy national oversight directly. Union hardliners are hardwork here though too, and will always divert back to the world cup as well - all beit whilst counting the fans amongst the empty yellow seats in Wellington on the tele! The dh only turns up when a world cup or lions tour is happening yet he thinks RL in Australia is worried? The NRL makes that kind of money every year, not just every 4 years or 11 years or 20 years when you host something.
I haven't watched a Union game in 3 decades because of the people like Bod, yes, you really are bigger and better than all of us leaguies in every way, you really are gods compared to us mungooos.
I can't stand afl, yet I would probably follow that before Union if League ever died just for the principle of it all.

If anyone would know about that it would be the bloke who comes here for his daily coke rant. It’s like an addict finding money on the street with the last decade of inflated tv rights and yet you still can’t stop the players to rugby. Tick tock.
