Rugby League football & PSIs

At University a group of us are doing a pointless experiment to determine statistically whether an 'inflated', 'half-inflated' or 'deflated' football travels further when kicked.

Does anyone here know what an approximate PSI would be for any of these
ball statuses? At the very least an approximate PSI for an inflated football (NRL standard inflation) it would be very appreciated. Unfortunately we have no known means of measuring it and do not have much knowledge on the subject ourselves.

I have tried to research it online with no luck.

To try and elaborate

- half-inflated was noticeably flat in comparison to fully inflated, it was similar pressure to how you can often purchase NRL balls, and was not 'hard' anywhere on the ball.

- deflated was obtained by letting as much air out as possible with a pump, not 100% deflated of course.

Any help is appreciated, cheers.

Hello Apey,

Unfortunately you cant find the answer to everything on the internet. Otherwise many would rig the toilet and fridge up in front of the computer and have a grey sock in easy reach.

Find a suitable pressure gauge. How about blowing it up at the servo with an adapter for the nozzle? You can buy one at a hardware store.

Your definitions for inflated are very rigorous. Sort of like when your dick isnt 'fully hard', but not 'totally floppy'. I'm sure you know what I mean.

If you don't have rocks in your head you'll just fabricate the entire thing.

Best of luck with your studies, I'm sure there will be a position available for you at NRL HQ once you graduate, perhaps as an assistant to Ian Schubert. I hear he needs someone to clean the tomato sauce stains out of his tie.

Full size rugby balls are 9-10psi / 69kPa

Some smaller sizes indicate 45kPa.

Most brands don't seem to have any indication printed on them. I don't know the specs for an NRL sanctioned ball.

you could try talking to steeden and see if they'll help. pretty sure a fully inflated ball goes further, if for no other reason than you can get better contact on it

lol Hooch's post serves as a great reminder for why you shouldn't spend your free time sniffing petrol

cheers, I wonder what difference (if any) there would be between Rugby & NRL balls, surely couldn't be too much

of course it does

hence me using the adjective pointless in my post, however that is not the real 'point' of the study

I guess I will most likely be making the others up, thanks anyway
