Rugby League Live - due out tomorrow

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere recently so I thought I'd start a thread about it.

A new rugby league game is coming out tomorrow (2/9/2010) titled "Rugby League Live" It's based on the 2010 squads and has online gameplay. The game has been formatted for both PS3 and XBOX 360.

I must concede the graphics aren't all that great, however it's been created by a smalltime Australian based company, so the funding for the game wasn't say what the likes of FIFA or NBA or Madden would get (obviously cause RL isn't as big as those sports anyways). However, a rugby league game nonetheless always gains my interest and I'll certainly be buying it. For you gaming enthusiasts and RL lovers I encourage you to also buy it so we can see RL based games grow and become better and hopefully (pipe dream) can have them EA sports quality sometime in the future.

Here is some information about the game below from wikipedia. I'll be keen to hear other peoples thoughts on the game, who's getting it (as at somepoint we maybe about to play on PSN?) and improvements that can be made to it.

Cheers guys.

Rugby League Live is an upcoming 2010 video game based on the sport of rugby league. It is the fifth in the NRL Rugby League video game series and the first on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is currently scheduled for release in Australia on September 2, New Zealand on August 27, and the United Kingdom & France on November 2, 2010 [1]

Production

The title is being developed by Australian company Big Ant Studios and published in Australia by Tru Blu Entertainment.[2] Developers of the preceding title Sidhe Interactive stated on their online forum that they supported the new developers by providing commentary, stadium and motion capture data (which may or may not have been used) as well as QA testing [3] As with all preceding home console titles, former New Zealand Warrior captain Steve Price is featured on the cover.

Features

Key features of this installment include:
  • Over 40 licensed teams from the NRL, Super League, State of Origin, City v Country, and World Cup.
  • Four-player multiplayer and online head-to-head or co-op play
  • Over 30 realistic Stadiums modelled from real-life counterparts
  • "Bone crunching" tackles and impact camera replays.
  • Clothing and environment degrade realistically
  • Replay mode with multiple angles and commentary by NRL commentator Andrew Voss
  • Custom player, team and competition creation.
Further, it has also been revealed that modes that appeared in previous Sidhe-developed titles will return. [4]

It has allready been released and i had it on Monday, its missing things like Franchise mode and you cant transfer players from team to team.
the game play is ok aswell not the greatest.
Overall i dont think its that great but as i play it more its starting to become more addictive, you also have to work to score your points its not as easy as other rugby league games.
I give it a 6/10

That sucks majorly, franchise mode is one of the high points of the previous rugby league games. However I'm willing to cut them some slack considering it's their first go at the game and they're only a small company.

As for not being able to transfer players.....are you saying we're stuck with Mortimer, Robson and Keating as our 6,7 & 9 forever? :p

How did the Parra team/Parra players rate? Who were our top 5 players?

haha yeh we are stuck with this years team and a few 20s like sio etc until they release another game.
Not having Franchise is a real let down and was the main reason i was buying it.
Our 5 best players would be Hayne, Hindy, Fui, Mateo and the rest are all on par, Ive noticed Robson gets tired really quickly and have to sub him after halftime. But the forwards dont get too tired, BUT they have Mateo as really unfit as well which is true .
It is also a little bit hard to get used to and as i said harder to score tries so its more of a grind.

Yeah franchise mode was a real shinning light in the previous games. At least the best players are accurately represented, strange that Robson would tire quickly as he is a back, they should be lasting the full match. Good to see Mateo accurately represented then, his good rating suggests his talent and his lack of fitness suggest his well lack of fitness. :thumb

At least the gameplay sounds better, you could score tried way too easily in the previous games. Some were as easy as a dummy from the halfback 10m out off the scrum.

I'll probably pop down to the shops today to see if it is out then, if I happen to get it I'll post my thoughts on it later this evening.

A rating like that is probably justified given how well we finished last season and that's when production for the game would have started. The Warriors getting a high rating like that would suggest that trublu had something to do with that as last year they offered nothing to suggest being rated one of the best teams in the game :p

I'm currently looking at a BIG W catalogue that says on sale from Wednesday the 1st of September through to Wednesday the 8th and the game is advertised for $88.

How much did you pay at EB? I hope they didn't charge you an arm and a leg?

However I think this is the 6th game they've made

There's:

Rugby League; Rugby League 2; Rugby League 2: World Cup; Rugby League 3 (Wii only); Rugby League Challenge (PSP); and Rugby League Live now.

I really dont think its worth what stores are asking for it but, it should be in 50 region early 60s at most.

RL3 on the Wii was VERY dissapointing, I agree - almost a step back from RL2, which is saying something! The game is 60% there, though given the massive production costs for a FIFA or Madden sports title, I am not too begrudging.

I would not get RL Live for more than $60, so if they are plugging it at $90, I think I will wait a few months

Still - it will be the only way we can make anything of the 2010 season!

Got this game yesterday from EB games, think its been out for a few days and all ill say is that it sucks balls…I played it for about 30 minutes and not sure that ill bother playing it again before I bother taking it back….some of the things that I didn’t like was the fact that it was almost impossible to make breaks and the fact that I was getting dominated in every tackle, that aspect of it was quite unrealistic (parra vs sharks)with the play the balls being super slow as a result..another thing I found was it was usually a half or hayne hanging one off the ruck, even on tackles 1 2 3 etc…FFMM for example was generally found lurking out 2 or 3 in from the sideline…wtf is with that? Another thing I found was everytime I changed player in the defensive line, for example when the other team was throwing the ball about, it never gave me the palyer closest to the ball meaning it was basically the CPU playing against each other at times….
They are some of the pts….overall, the gameplay just sucked, something back from the 90s…I guess its hard when your used to playing games like Madden and Fifa…I understand they would have smaller budgets etc but it deadest doesn’t to justice to the NRL to produce something like that

I really like the idea that you can create your own players, teams and leagues. As long as the gameplay is good (which I have heard it is) I would buy it, but only when it is cheap.
