I see Sideshow is 5/8 & captain of the Yank side again. He's playing in London in a few weeks. Not a bad gig for the off season IMHO.

It has been running longer than the Rugby World Cup pete. I don't think it is clutching at straws but there is a genuine need to promote the international league.

In front of a bumper and enthusiastic crowd at Celtic Crusaders’ Brewery Field ground, Wales warmed up for their big date in Scotland next week with an excellent 50-10 win over Papua New Guinea.
Attendance: 1,456

the rugby union world cup held here in 2003, averaged 38,000 per game
I remember many of the minnow games being pretty packed

I wonder if the league WC will be estatic to get even half that?

The minow games were packed because you had to buy a ticket for a crap game to get into the ballot for a major game.

How desperate is this grab at straws to try and give the game international flavour

So - there is no genuine International element to Rugby league? The 100,000 or so RL players outside Australia would probably disagree with you...

What is it about some RL supporters who want to stick the boot in whenever International RL comes up?

Because it is a complete and utter waste of time..That's why....and money could be spent promoting the game better...
