 \\\\:D/ 14 million viewers watched it in France on average, and 16,5 watched the last 15 minutes.

It's the highest audience of the year on French TV (all included: movies, football, news programs...). It's also more than some France pool games at last year's football World Cup. TF1 were hoping for 10 million.

why is it a suprise? its one of the biggest sporting events on the globe. so there should be a big amount of home viewers . i remember the last cup in australia... the size of the crowds shocked me. even for the minnow games.

Isn't that because the ARU made people buy tickets to sh*tty minnow games if they wanted to go to the bigger fixtures?

Yes, but no one forces people to go to the games.

I went to see France play Fiji at Suncorp Stadium. Tickets cost me $15 each. There were 40,000 people at that game.

Also saw Tonga play NZ. $20 a ticket.

The ARU marketed the 2003 RWC superbly.

Rugby now boasts 2 of the 3 highest (n°1 and 3) audience figures on French TV in 2007, all included (sports, movies, news...) And by the end of the World Cup it could be 7 or 8 in the top 10!

In September :

Football : Italy-France 9,3 million; France-Scotland 9,7 million
Rugby : France-Argentina 14 million; France-Namibia 12,2 million

Of course more people are going to watch in the host nation.
Compare the 07 RWC with the 1998 Football WC and see the result.

Are you saying that the French don't take the European soccer qualifies seriously ?Consider it was against Fifa world cup champions Italy ? They were only playing the Argies and Namibia in rugby .
Its great for rugby in France that the TV ratings are good . I hope the frogs makes the final and then you can add another couple of millions into the ratings .:)

Great news. Hopefully we will beat the 3 billion viewing figure of those who watched the last Rugby World Cup.
