Slightly unrelated but still pertinant.

What has the Gold Coast got now that they didn't have during their last generally unsuccessful tenure in the ARL?
Everybody here seems to think that they are a shoe in to join the NRL.

If I had a choice, the Central Coast would come first, but I also think that South-east Queensland need a 2nd team to control the monopoly that the Broncos presently dominate.

 Yeah, if you go for C Anderson as coach, you tend to have to take the Anderson Family meal deal...

In terms of the Gold Coast bid Suity, I'm with you. I don't know what they've got now that was different to before, other than maybe some new guys with new pledges of money? But you need more than that to be successful long term... I think Central Coast bid has got it all right. Make them #16!

A second team in Brisbane is probably one of the worst ideas I have heard for ages. With the Broncos, Lions and Reds, there is already too much competition to get bums on seats.. Gold Coast is a great idea as long as they nuke Carrara and build from scratch...
There is nothing really wrong with having a Central Coast team, but the thing going against it is that fact that it is in NSW and we all know that there are already enough teams in NSW.

Gold Coast will get the nod.. Melbourne should also get more assistance from the NRL than what they currently do (did wonders for AFL up here in Brisbane when the AFL made a concerted effort)..

The Gold Coast is 1 hour trip south of Brisbane.
Living on the GC I'm probably a little biased but I think it makes sense to either relocate or expand the league to the GC. That's one point in our favour. We don't care if it's a relocated team, the CC had a team but ran it of town.

The Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. If the NRL doesn't put a team here either the AFL or ARU will and it WILL be successful.

From the figures I've seen the Trial games on the coast have consistently drawn higher crowds than those played.

Can it really be the NATIONAL rugby league if 12 of 16 teams are located in NSW? 11 out of sixteen is still out of whack but probably the best we can do for now.

The Carrarra stadium will be either upgraded or rebuilt when/if a team is admitted into the comp.

It has been proven that people will support the team - they were getting great support before they were kicked out of the comp in the merger.

Locating a team in the Coast should take some of the player monopoly the Broncos have on players in this region, give the local players another option and thus more talent in the NRL.

In an ideal world a team would relocate from sydney and an expansion team put on the CC but that is probably too much to ask.

Wally Lewis should be coach of the team ;-)
(Sorry threw that one to see if anyone was still awake.)

I'm still awake... I'm sure Wally would be a great guy to be involved in a GC club in some way! But isn't his statue outside Suncorp?

Carara needs a rebuild - once a GC team is approved and before they start playing in the comp. This can take some time, and usually depends upon the commitment of state govt.

I agree an ideal would be expansion team/Bears on Central Coast in 05/06, and relocation of Sydney team (Sharks?) to GC agreed, and their entry to follow a few years later (once decent viewing Stadium is built).

Well seeing as Wally won't be commentating on Fox this year he would be a very good pick up for a new club. Hopefully just not as coach......

I think a club needs to relocate out of Sydney however we have to make sure a structure is well in place and that club would be able to develop a fan base in what ever region they were moved to. We don't want a repeat of the Northern Eagles.....
