Kenny is playing injured this year. He is obviously missing a bit of strength. Tackles are less effective and his passing is a little off; last year he was throwing accurate bullets off the ground 10-15 metres to move the opposition around, this year he can’t get that far and needs to rise up. It is one of the things impacting our attack, as it is giving the halves half a moment less time.

He is not really a runner but last year and earlier this year he was showing a few good scoots from dummy half; as others have said just commit to it if he is going to run.

But get that shoulder cleared up and he will be back to being an amazing player for us, an integral part of a spine that has been dominant over a number of years.

You are one of the most pedantic sooky merkins I've ever come across online. It really makes sense that you post on The Roar
I don’t think anybody who knows me would call me “sooky”. Not my thing. Pedantic, yes I can wear that. I do tend to be a bit obsessive about facts, stats and data and I realize that must drive you nuts. You much prefer unbridled passion and gut reaction. I’m OK with that, there would be no discussion without opposing points of view.

I really don’t understand your reference to the Roar. There are some great articles and post on there and also a lot of dross. Pretty much like our forum.

His service is really good. He only jumped out and danced 2 or 3 times vs eels but other than that his service was better than Kenny.

Kenny is having his worst season since he made grade. His speed and accuracy of service, decision making and running game have all gone backwards.

He is also starting to become a silly penalty machine, much in the same way that Late Panthers Priddis became. It's almost infuriating.

I agree with this, I think he’s playing injured and it’s effecting his passing and tackling to a degree.

We just don’t have a solid replacement, so it looks like we are making do.

He is definitely down on form though.

Kenny is the best 9 at the club by miles. MILES. He would be the starting 9 at most clubs apart from Melbourne, Tigers and NQ. I think most of you are expecting a 9 to be a Cam Smith and Api hybrid. His toughness and work without ball in hand is what we have built our game around. We have built our game around field position, defensive pressure and line speed. Without Fish he is the one responsible for leading that. If we look at all the games we’ve been able to do that for prolonged periods this year, Kenny has been front and centre of it.

Whilst I’d love a 9 with the attacking nous of an Api or Marshall-King, our attack is not the foundation of how we have routinely won games over the past 4 seasons. It’s been on the back of our defence, pressure and resilience.

I think we lost a ton of resilience with all the blokes we’ve lost year on year. None more important than Fish who wouldn’t say much but do it through his actions. His loss is the biggest we’ve had to overcome and based on what we’ve seen this season, we are not able to overcome. It is apparent with the warriors this season, noting how gritty and never out of the contest they are even without him on the park. His presence and aura at the club has really taken them to another level. Kenny and Leota were his enforcers of this aura. And this season Kenny has been trying to do it largely on his own.

I'd mostly agree with this and also acknowledge the fact that his form is probably a result of playing injured.

However, the thing that annoys me most about Kenny this season is the dumb penalties he gives away. If your game is predicated on field position and pressure, then giving away silly penalties is the worst thing a player can do, and he is guilty of it more than anyone else in the squad.

The other player who was doing this regularly earlier in the season was Tago and he was roundly lambasted in these forums in part due to his ill-discipline. He seems to be getting pinged less often over the last few week thankfully.

BTW does anyone think that the Panthers should take a crack at Starford To'a?

He has a real knack for finding the try line even in heavy traffic.

I believe that our roster is fine for outside back cover but maybe worth a cheeky offer and see if he bites?

I quite like To'a, he does seem a bit injury prone though.
